| i like bands like arvinger, (old) wulfshon, myrkgrav, månegarm, thyrfing. a lot of the folk/black metal i like to listen to is not really to be considered viking metal, like moonsorrow, menhir, alkonost, kampfar. | |

| It's important not to confuse viking metal with folk metal. Both crossover a lot, but are distinctive styles.
Bathory (88-91, 02-03), Kampfar, Thyrfing, Tyr, and Moonsorrow are the bands that immediately come to mind.
Some other bands that use strong viking influences but crossover to other subgenres are Amon Amarth, Unleashed, Enslaved, Heidevolk, and Falkenbach.
Great stuff. Bathory's "Blood Fire Death" is perhaps the greatest viking metal album of all time. | |
