Hey everybody! I'm NoRestrains and I just registered. Ok, now that the HELLO-I-AM-NEW-HERE part of this post is complete I would like to ask for some band suggestions. Apart from the classic Metallica/Motorhead/Megadeth/Maiden/ACDC/..... I also enjoy Helloween, Gamma Ray, Heavenly, Primal Fear and mostly power metal related sounds. Plus, I have a slight taste for thrash (Pantera) and for a lil'bit of death (Arch Enemy cause Angela's voice is awesome). What I'm asking for are some of your beloved must-try Power Metal bands or Metal in general so that I can refresh/expand my music horizons. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the HoM board.
Have you checked out 3 Inches of Blood? They are a newer band that play classic heavy metal with some thrash influences.
BTW, could you please reduce the size of your signature image to around half it's size? Thanks.

Welcome to the board!
As for thrash metal...
Check out Dark Angel, Demolition Hammer, Devastation, and Morbid Saint for some more vicious stuff in the genre.
Check out Heathen for some more melodic thrash metal.
Death metal...
Unbidden, Gorguts, Monstrosity, and Disciples of Power are some bands to check out.
Also, there's a band called Stygian Sky I'd recommend.
As for more traditional sounding metal...
Check out the bands Shok Paris, Chastain, and Obsession.
I might as well post a few videos...

Listen Ken, I did the bands by country thread and I know there are no Ethiopian bands. You can't fool me.
I like what you did right there.

Thank you all. It seems that I should try a rather large amount of bands so I'll get started.

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone jumped on this.
Pantera had some thrash influences. Arch Enemy definitely has some death metal influences. Some of Arch Enemy's stuff is closer to thrash than Pantera's. However you want to label 'em, I like Arch Enemy.
I like the simple grunt-n-grind death metal like Six Feet Under, early Mortification, Gorefest, Bolt Thrower, etc. Also the early stuff like Death and Possessed.
Also some of the more melodic stuff like early Amorphis. "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" is brilliant.

Raven!
...they're not exactly thrash, nor are they exactly power metal, but they were an influence on both in my book.

Aw, it makes for entertaining reading. I think it shows we are really into metal and as long as it stays away from insults it should be ok.

You might want also want to try HARDCORE / THRASH if you're into Pantera, very similar to Groove Metal

i guess i just don't see them as genres, but descriptors. a bands should should be properly described to those who are interested. there are so many different styles of any particular genre. some peoples tastes are specific.
I can definitely understand that side of it. My main issue is that you ask 10 people to describe a particular band and you're liable to get 10 completely different opinions on what genre/sub-genre they belong to, which in the grand scheme of things just makes it meaningless.
I mean, if people want to get that specific about it, they should really categorize each individual song on an album.
The debut Black Sabbath album...
Black Sabbath is a proto-doom track The Wizard is a heavy blues. N.I.B. is a proto-metal track Wicked World is a blues/jazz hybrid Sleeping Village is "dark folk" The Warning is a psychedelic blues
Does that make the first Sabbath album a proto-doom, blues, proto-metal, jazz, dark folk, psychedelic blues album?
It just seems easier to say "it's Heavy Rock".
