I attended the last day of the first Metal Heart Festival in Notodden, Norway. This 3 day festival featured so many great bands, I wish I could have attended all 3 days. Check out www.metalheart.no for further details. Still, I got to attend the night shows on Saturday. When we got to the venue, Morgana Lefay was already playing. I would have loved to see them, but we had to get to know the venue, etc. So we only heard them from a distance. Swallow The Sun was next, but since they are not my thing, I went CD shopping instead, scoring 3 CD's from my High priority list!
Then it was time for Nevermore. I've seen them before, and knew I was in for a treat. And Warrel and the boys didn't me down. After fixing some problems with Jeff's guitar, it was a smooth ride all the way through. The set was a bit short, but we got great stuff like "Born", "Enemies Of Reality", "Deconstruction" and "The Rover Dragon Has Come" to name a few. Absolutly fantastic.
Jorn was up next. Now it was a bit odd having him play after Nevermore, but is he is a local boy, he sure had enough fans there. And they did put on a great show, getting the crowd all worked up. He played mostly Jorn stuff, but also one ARK tune! It's always a pleasure to watch Tore and Jørn Viggo on guitar, as both are virtuosos and showmen. And what a steady rhythm section Jorn has!
Testament were headlining, and anything else would have been tragic. The clock had past 0:30 am, but were were hungry for THRASH! And the guys delivered. Chuck, Alex, Greg, Eric and Nick Parker on drums. What a blast. Playing stuff from all their albums, the setlist was almost flawless. And the crowd went ballistic. During "Over The Wall" Chuck wanted people on the stage, so that was very hectic and intense. Testament is probably the best thrash metal band live, ever! On a side note though, it was a little weird watching Eric really take the back seat as Alex played ALL the solos. I've seen Testament two times before, and this was very strange for me. Alex seemed very into it though, smiling all the way throught he concert. Chuck promised us a new album by February/March next year, and promised us to tour Norway then. I'll be there for sure!
