I love those two Soundgarden albums and still blast them to this very day.

When Slaughter's album came out, you are correct the term 'hair metal' did not exist, it was then called pop metal, I have this album on CD, and its not bad but I do not like it as much as you do.

I have never owned a Gamma Ray or Grave Digger CD so I have no opinions on those album but I am enjoying your thread.

You really need to get yourself some Gamma Ray and Grave Digger. I could make you a mix cd if you want. If not at least get yourself Gamma Ray- Land Of The Free.

Ghost - Opus Eponymous

Ghost- Opus Eponymous
This IS my favorite new band. I heard some samples of this album when it first came out because so many people were talking about them. I didn't really like what I heard. The production is kind of something that would have been done in the 70's and I didn't get it. I just thought it was some generic band that would be here and gone in a flash. That was until someone on my facebook posted some live videos. I decided to check the videos out and it just clicked with me. The whole stage show and the music. I did some more research on them and finally gave the whole album a listen and I was just blown away. The vocalist took me some time to get used to because its a little weak but it eventually grows on you and I just love everything about this album. Its just a huge throwback to bands like Blue Oyster Cult, and Mercyful Fate. It doesn't get any better. They even earned a spot on my truck with a decal, which I thought was a little too big but it looks awesome right in the middle of the window lol.

Pulp - Different ClassPulp - This Is Hardcore

This band started out very weird. If you hear their first couple of albums and listen to the albums His N Hers, Different Class and This Is Hardcore you wouldn't even know its the same band. What they transformed themselves into was amazing and to this day I still don't understand how they basically went from sounding like total sh*t to really getting their act together and just basically making these songs that sound larger than life.

Pulp- Different Class
I'm still on a high from seeing these guys this past week. What a great live show they put on and I'm glad I got to see it. When I first heard these guys I saw the video for the song "Common People". the music channel Much Music played it constantly. After hearing it for the umpteenth time I started to kind of like it. I finally got a hold of the album and it just opened up a whole other world of music to me, british pop rock. I've heard Blur and I like them as well but Pulp just take it to another level. Different Class is such a great album all the way through.

Pulp- This Is Hardcore
This album is much darker than Different Class. I think at the time this album was being written the vocalist, Jarvis Cocker was heavily involved with drugs and drinking that he was built up with a lot of anger and it really shows in the lyrics. A lot of people were dissapointed with this album especially coming after an album that was pretty upbeat but I think its great. Funny how I tend to like more of the darker albums from some bands.

The 69 Eyes - Back in Blood

The 69 Eyes- Back In Blood
This isn't the only album I like by them, I have them all but I really need to go through them all a little more extensively. Back In Blood though is such a good album its hard for me to get past it. Again when I first heard this band years ago I wasn't too crazy about them. I wasn't into the whole gothic scene but everything changed for me with this album.

Russell Allen & Jorn Lande - The Battle

Russell Allen and Jorn Lande- The Battle
When I heard about this coming out I wondered how these two would sound together. I didn't even know what this was all about. I didn't even hear anything about them working together. I actually think I just picked the album up because I knew who the people were before even hearing the music. This thing is awesome all the way through. Every song is singable from the first to the last. It has a great sound as well and both of these vocalists work great with eachother. I like the 2nd and 3rd album but they aren't as good as this first album.

Armored Saint - Symbol of Salvation

Armored Saint- Symbol Of Salvation
This was the first Armored Saint album I ever heard so obviously thats going to make this my favorite album, but it really goes beyond that. Everything on this album was done right. Their older songs, you can tell they are from that time period in the 80's. Symbol Of Salvation is a more current sounding album which is what makes it stand out above the others. I remember listening to this in high school constantly. A friend and I used to listen to it together on the way to and from school on the bus. I used to have one of those walkmans with the double headset jack. I still love the album just as much today. It never gets old.

The Ghost album is great, very few bands could have pulled that off. In the wrong hands that could have been one of the most laughable albums in history, but they totally nailed it. I'll be curious to see how they handle their sophomore release.

I'm going to see them on the 26th (opening for Mastodon/Opeth), I'm looking forward to hearing them live.

To add something useful; yes, those Soundgarden albums absolutely rock. I played those heaps during the mid-nineties. In regards to the Anthrax stuff, Persistance of Time is my favourite. I can understand Spreading the Disease being your album of choice, especially with songs like, A.I.R., Madhouse and Armed and Dangerous. For some bizarre reason, Medusa grsbbed me the most of that CD.

I have only heard a few tracks from Ghost and I have loved what I heard, when I first heard of them, my reaction was whatever, til I actually listened to them and I was amazed.

The only Pulp I own is 'Different Class' an album that I love but have not spun in a long time.

I did not get that Armored Saint album til about 2 or three years ago, excellent disc, I have to agree with you.

I will just grab a Gamma Ray you recommended and maybe one of those Grave Digger albums in a few weeks.

Definitely pick up that Ghost album. The whole thing from start to finish is awesome. I actually just listened to it the other day while I was doing some cleaning. haha

Different Class is a great album. I didn't think I would like them at first but they really do have a lot to offer.

Awesome about the Gamma Ray and Grave Digger. Its hard to say what Grave Digger to pick up since I really do like all of them, but id say the fan favorite is Tunes Of War.

I haven't forgotten about this thread just haven't had time but I have some at the moment so here we go.

AC/DC - High Voltage AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap AC/DC - Powerage AC/DC - Highway to Hell AC/DC - Back in Black AC/DC - The Razors Edge

I didn't get into AC/DC until the Razors Edge album. Of course when I was younger I always heard their songs on the radio but it never went any further than that until I got older. I believe Razors Edge was the first one I bought on cassette. Not every song is great on this one but I can listen to Thunderstruck all the time and never get sick of it. High Voltage I think is my favorite out of all of these picks, but the others are just as good. Its AC/DC they never set out to reinvent the wheel. They just make good bare bones rock and roll albums and thats it.

Been a while with this huh?

Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry Twisted Sister - Under the Blade Twisted Sister - You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll

Twisted Sister- Stay Hungry, Under The Blade, and You Can't Stop Rock N Roll
Twisted Sister! I never really gave much attention to Twisted Sister when I was younger. Yea I liked We're Not Gonna Take It, and I Wanna Rock but that was pretty much it. It wasn't until I was in high school that I started to listen to them. My uncle told me stories about how he would go and see them all the time at the Village Pub on Long Island NY. I thought if my uncle liked them then I really should check them out and thankfully I did because I got to find out that they were more than just those radio hit songs. Those first 3 albums are just great all the way through. I don't really think their image really fit their sound very well though because seeing them do that now is a little ridiculous looking. If you can get past that though they really do have some classic songs.

Within Temptation - The Silent Force

Within Temptation- The Silent Force
This was the first album I got of this band. I heard songs here and there and liked them so much I had to get the albums. At the time they were imports so they were a little hard to come by unless you wanted to spend the money so I waited a while. Thankfully they finally released their albums in the US. A lot of fans of the band don't like The Silent Force too much compared to the earlier stuff but they can't be more wrong. I guess I could see people not liking the more commercial approach to their music but they know how to do it right. I like their other albums after this but I think this one just has a mix of a bunch of different styles to it that it makes for a great album.

Luca Turilli - King of the Nordic Twilight Luca Turilli - Prophet of the Last Eclipse

Luca Turilli Prophet Of The Last Eclipse and Kings Of The Nordic Twilight
When Luca announced he was making a solo album I couldn't imagine it being much different from Rhapsody. I was surprised to find out that I actually liked it a little more than what Rhapsody was doing. Kings Of The Nordic Twilight is a little similar to earlier Rhapsody stuff but then he stepped it up with Prophet Of The Last Eclipse. The overall sound of the album and even the songs just proved how great of a song writer and musician Luca really is. His first 2 solo albums are probably better than most of the Rhapsody discography. His thrid album took a completely different direction and I was extremely disapointed with it. Olafs vocals really sounded great on those first 2 albums and he was barely in the third album and even the songs that he sang on just didn't feel right. Lucas other solo project called Dreamquest where Luca played keyboards was a little better but it just didn't do too much for me.

AC/DC with Bon is rock 'n' roll perfection. The first 3 albums with Brian are good and there are some scattered tracks here and there since that I like...but I almost never listen to the Johnson era. My favorite albums are "If You Want Blood, You've Got it" (one of my all-time fave live albums), Powerage, Let There Be Rock and Highway To Hell. Favorite album with Johnson is Flick Of The Switch.

The original version of "Under The Blade" is a good record, but that's the only Twisted Sister I would ever need to hear again.

No comment on the power metal stuff. Razz

That original version is awesome. I love the sound of that one. I never even knew there was a difference until that remaster came out. They should have never played with the sound on the first remaster.

That one is either a complete remix or possibly a re-recording (or some combination).

Whatever it is it sounds better than the remaster that came out on spitfire records.

I was going through my cd player and taking out some cds that have been in there for a while that I really haven't felt like listening to for a while. When I was going through my cds to pick out new stuff to put in the player I was thinking I have a lot of cds that I will always like no matter how many times I listen to them and even if I'm sick of them I still love them. These cds will stand the test of time for me and I'll hopefully still be listening to them when I get older. If I ever get to the point of having my own kids and maybe grand kids I can turn them on to things I used to like even if they probably wont like it lol.

I have a decent sized collection so this list will not be small by any means so instead of just posting every single one that I like I will do this over time so everyone can discuss their feelings as well, whether you like it, hate it, or don't even know what it is.

I'm warning everyone now though, its not all "Metal". lol!

This is where it all began for me. Hysteria was basically at the time the first "Metal" (I know its not considered metal now) band I was turned on to. For me, In 1987 There was no better band than Def Leppard. I worshiped Hysteria. It has everything that I love about music in it, its just one great song after the other. Ok towards the end it starts to fade a little but it didn't matter to me and to this day it still doesn't. Even though this album sounds completely out dated now I still have a lot of love for it. I couldn't even tell you how many times I had to replace it just from over playing it.

Moving on, Of course I had to seek out their other albums and I'm not sure which I ended up getting next, but which ever it was be it Pyromania or High and Dry, I loved those albums just the same and maybe a little more because it showed me a whole different side to the band that Hysteria doesn't even touch. Sadly they haven't topped these albums since. I tried to like Adrenalize but you could tell that they just weren't into it at the time. Then Vivian Campbell comes into the band who I had no idea who he was at the time(I wasn't so big into music then) and he completely ruined the band. It may not be even his fault but Steves presence has definetly been missing since he died and I haven't been able to like them the same since.

Moving onto Guns N Roses. When I first heard these guys I wasn't crazy about them at all. Everyone was so excited about them I didn't see the big deal. A friend of mine, at the time, played LIES for me and I still didn't like them. I was also kind of not into them cursing for some reason, what a stupid reason, again I was young lol. I don't know what it was that finally clicked with me, maybe it was Paradise City? I don't remember or it could have been Sweet Child either way I broke down and got the Appetite For Destruction cassette. After listening to it I found out what the buzz was all about. It was just one great song after the other. It was angry and loud something I really never saw myself liking but it quickly grew on me.

Use Your Illusions were completely different than Appetite almost a differen't band. the attitude was still there on some songs Get In The Ring, Right Next Door To Hell, You Could Be Mine etc. but the newer direction they were taking with November Rain, and Estranged opened up a whole new world again to me. Who would ever think the use of pianos in Rock or Metal music would even go good with each other. These songs were proof that it worked and it worked great. These albums to this day get spins from me they never get old. My friend and I still talk about how good they were too and how they just don't get old.

Ok so, so far it looks like I'm picking the easy albums that are no big surprises but I figured I'd start this off easy. Don't worry it will build up haha. Enjoy for now.

I am in agreement with Guns, in the beginning I was not a fan either, didnt care for them until I think the UYI albums came out and I heard "You Could Be Mine" It sparked my interest so I got Appetite and that was it I was hooked. I still love both UYI albums and actually have them both on my Iphone to jam to.

As for Def Leppard outside of a few songs here and there the only album I really like is Hysteria.

IMO those Bon Scott era AC/DC is the essence of rock n roll, and Bon Scott could sang the yellow pages he would have sounded convincing. The man sang at full throttle and was just one hell of a frontman. I have a friend who is a few years older then me, and saw AC/DC play in the UK in 1977, and he said he never forgot it. He said Bon Scott had so much stage presence even thou he just stood still for the most part.

I love Twisted Sister, just a cool band, and one of the funniest concerts I saw as a kid. I will never forget some dumbass threw a firecracker at the stage, which sent Dee Snider on a rant.

The film "Let There Be Rock" is good evidence of Bon's charisma as a frontman.

Plus it contains the immortal interview question...

"Bon, do you consider yourself a star?"

"I see stars sometimes!"

I actually have those songs too. What do you have them on? I have a bootleg cd I found at a yard sale years ago.

Hahaha yea man definitely. Bon was the man. Loosing him killed AC/DC. Don't get me wrong I still love them and I like a lot of those albums as well but it just doesn't hold up to the Bon era. They slowed things down too much on a lot of those Brian albums. I always wanted to go to an AC/DC show at least once but I'm affraid I would be bored to tears.

Thats funny about the firecracker haha. Now he's a SMF. haha
