| The last time I went into my old comic shop (which was quite a few years ago) it seemed like the comics were almost an afterthought. They had devoted much more floor space to merch like t-shirts, toys/action figures, trading cards (this was during the time when stuff like "Pokemon" and "Magic: The Gathering" were very popular), etc. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| It's official, I'm taking my Spidey collection to a comic book dealer tomorrow...thus clearing out some closet space and hopefully making a bit o' coin besides... we shall see how it goes. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| ...aaaaaand the Universe just c*ck blocked me again...just as I was getting ready to put the books in the car and hit the road, Comic Book Guy called me and sez he's having car trouble and won't be in the store at all today. So we're gonna have to do it next week. SIGH. I was actually looking forward to this trip. I haven't been in a comic book store in ages. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Welp, the Spidey collection is sold. Didn't get as much $ as I was hoping for, but what the hell, it's more than I had when I woke up this AM.
So much for everyone who used to tell me "Hang onto those comic books, kid, they'll make you rich someday." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I was hoping for at least $200 for the load, but I ended up with $150. Kinda sucks, but I could understand it, cuz a lot of the older ones I had were not in the best shape (I picked most of'em up at yard sales and comic-show cheapo boxes back in the day), and other than the first "black costume" issue, the first appearance of Venom and one or two others, I didn't have many of the so-called "key" issues. Most of the stuff I had was from the '80s, those issues are fairly common and aside from a few exceptions they don't command big $$.
I'm fine with it though. I wasn't gonna go in there like the people on "Pawn Stars" who research their stuff on the Internet, see it selling for $1000 or whatever, then expect to get that exact amount for it.
I obviously would've done better on 'em if I sold them myself via Craigslist or eBay but to be honest, I just don't have the time or the patience for that. I did the "piece-by-piece sell off" thing when I got rid of the bulk of my collection in the mid 90s and it took forever, it was a huge pain in the ass. I should've just taken the whole collection to a dealer and been done with it way back then! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I'm curious, did he just give you a lump sum fee for the collection or did he actually break it down issue by issue ? | |

He went thru the whole box like "OK, this is a good one, this is a good one," etc. and told me basically that the majority of them (aside from a few ishes) were going to wind up in his "dollar box," then he sat down w/a calculator and offered me the $150, I figured I wasn't going to do much better than that at any other comic store so I took it and ran. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Sounds fair enough I suppose. Not a bad payoff though for old mags just sitting around collecting dust. | |

| Yea thats pretty good. I tried the whole ebay thing. It didn't work I might have sold a few but I was still left with a bunch. Like you I don't have any of the hard to find comics either as far as I know. Its easier to do what you did. I want to get rid of a collection of National Geographic magazines. They were my grandfathers. He found some guy in CT. that was getting rid of them and he drove all the way there to get them. Theres tons of them and I have no use for them what so ever. I looked on ebay just to see what any of them are going for and basically no one is buying them. I'd hate to just throw them out but I don't know what else to do with them because I don't think they are worth anything. I guess I could donate them to a library or something but money would help _________________ | |

If they're recent (i.e. the last 20 years or so) you might as well recycle 'em, but if they're older you might have some luck. I know when my grandfathere passed away in 1980 he had a crapload of those mags going back to the late 30s (he'd been a subscriber for years 'n' years) and my parents managed to find a buyer for those. If memory serves, the guy who bought them was more interested in the vintage advertisements on the back covers (Coca-Cola, automotive ads, etc.) than in the magazines themselves. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

That's what he told you. He was interested in the vintage boobies of topless tribal women. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.
