right now I am listening to "Unleashed In The East" by Judas Priest on vinyl for the very first time. Growing up I had the cassette and of course got the cd more than once, but if I recall nobody I knew had the LP.

uh, oh yeah, this record sounds unbelieveable. The guitars are so heavy. it took me 43 years to really fully appreciate vinyl recording, having been lost in the world of digitalization and CD's for 2 decades.

I mentioned in another thread how much I HATE the CD masterings of those early Judas Priest albums. There is no dynamic range AT ALL on those discs.

Do a side by side comparison, beginning of "Genocide" from Unleashed. Play the CD, then listen to the vinyl and you can hear the dynamics that are supposed to be there. Modern CD mastering is atrocious.

Quiet parts in songs are supposed to be quiet...not equal in volume to the loud parts...which is what happens when you digital limit everything until there is no life left.

I too have gone back to purchasing vinyl when possible.
