This is an excellent album and if this is truly their last album they are going out on a high note, I was surprised how good this album.

It'll be sad to see'em go but STING IN THE TAIL is a decent way for the Scorps to call it a career (barring the inevitable string of posthumous live albums, "rarities" collections and best-of comps that are sure to follow over the next decade or so).

Stepping back a bit, I thoroughly enjoy Humanity: Hour 1. I got a free promo copy that was sent to work.

I had zero interest in the band at the time and seeing Desmond Child's name in the credits made me even less enthuiastic. But a free cd is a free cd, so I gave it a spin. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I really went in not expecting to like it at all. Go figure.

I shelved it for awhile and due to this thread, broke it out to give it a fresh spin. And again, I'm a little surprised how much I like it. Maybe since I've skipped over most of the Scorps output since around 1980, I have no notion as to what it is or isn't supposed to sound like. It's just a good rock album to me.

I have not heard Sting in the Tail, but I've read many a positive thing about it here, so I may eventually snag a copy. Especially if this is going to be their swan song.

I picked a random album to play yesterday, and it was Scorpions - Taken By Force.
Possibly as I read the guys in the Bay Area were all nuts about them pre-Animal Magnetism LP/ pre-Blackout LP era.

My own first experience listineng to the Scorps was around the US Festival tv/radio airings and then Love at First Sting so when I get into older material, it's always an experience.

At first I'm thinking I will be bored, and the production is too small, too basic, and their hard rock/metal is not hammering me enough, then the more their riffs play on and Klaus Meine sings so well, I am hooked.

I usually have to play their older albums from start to finish.(Newer ones I might hear once or twice and rarely listen again).

Track List:
1. Mysterious (5:28)
2. To be No. 1 (3:57)
3. Obsession (4:09)
4. 10 Light Years Away (3:52)
5. Mind Like a Tree (5:34)
6. Eye II Eye (5:01)
7. What U Give U Get Back (5:02)
8. Skywriter (4:55)
9. Yellow Butterfly (5:44)
10. Freshly Squeezed (3:58)
11. Priscillav3:17)
12. Du Bist So Schmutzig (3:55)
13. Aleyah (4:19)
14. A Moment in a Million Years (3:38)

Nothing to see here...... move along....

Scorpions, really? Seriously? What is this crap????? To paraphrase Ult's review of Queensryche's 'Hear In The Now Frontier' - this is NOT Scorpions. This is a group of aliens who have come down to earth and taken the form of Klaus and his cohorts in an effort to force feed us pure horse crap!

Since that is out of the way, I might as well write something about the album.......... Um...... The most interesting fact is that James Kottak was hired as the new Scorpions drummer. But, I have no idea why the even bothered to list him on the credits of this album as the drums on the entire album sounds like a drum machine.......

They did release a video for the song "To Be No. 1" which featured a Monica Lewinsky look alike and cigars. The video is just embarrassing - I felt embarrassed for Scorpions. The new "look" with Klaus strutting around thinking he is Bono and the dancing..... have a look for yourself if you can handle it:

This is by far the absolute worst Scorpions album. This one makes 'Pure Instinct' sound like a masterpiece! Avoid at all cost - do not waste your money on this garbage!!!!!!
I am in the minority... I like this album, yup I think it is good and stands on its own. The band played songs they wanted and I apdlaud them for it. The stand out tracks for me are Obsession, Eye II Eye, and A Moment in a Million Years. I like this album because it is different. The song Eye II Eye conveys to me an honest emotional look inside and has particular meaning to me since I heard it a little after I had lost my father to cancer. This is one of those albums I listen to with headphones when I'm getting all introspective.

whoah, that video is really cool! The song is okay too.

I usually despise bands I am familiar with making a radical change in sound, but there are some that pull it off, (eg. Pyogenesis switching from death metal to Green Day-ish pop-punk)
This has me interested enough to hear the album, than some more boring/annoying smurf poo like Winds of Change.

Scorpions Discography - Page 11 220px-50

Scorpions - Comeblack
Released November 4th, 2011
and Jan 24, 2012 in the US
Sony Music Entertainment

Track listing

"Rhythm of Love" - 3:39
"No One Like You" - 4:06
"The Zoo" - 5:38
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" - 4:15
"Blackout" - 3:48
"Wind of Change" - 5:08
"Still Loving You" - 6:43
"Tainted Love" (Gloria Jones cover) - 3:28
"Children of the Revolution" (T. Rex cover) - 3:33
"Across the Universe" (The Beatles cover) - 3:17
"Tin Soldier" (Small Faces cover) - 3:15
"All Day and All of the Night" (The Kinks cover) - 3:16
"Ruby Tuesday" (The Rolling Stones cover) - 3:55

The Scorpions released Sting In The Tail in 2010 and announced that it would be the final Scorpions album and the supporting tour would be their last tour ever and it would last through 2012 or 2013. The tour was initially called the "Get Your Sting And Blackout World Tour" which has now morphed into the "Final Sting Tour 2012".

The Scorpions then decided to 'clarify' the final album statement that "Sting In The Tail" is the studio album of all new material and decided to release an album of re-records and cover songs. Rudolph and Klaus made a list of songs that influenced them as musicians and whittled it down. The covers were selected and the band headed into the studio to record the album.

The first half of the album are the re-records of the band's biggest hits. Most of the songs sound great with the newer production technology with "Rhythm Of Love" getting the absolute best update as the original just seemed to be lacking in production as the producer at the time tried to make it sound like Hysteria by The Scorpions.

The only track I have an issue on the re-record is "The Zoo" - I don't like how they play it on the re-record. The into is too slow.

The other slight issue I have with the re-records is that the drums and bass sound different which gives the songs a little bit of different feel than the originals. That is too be expected since Bucholz and Herman Ze German aren't playing on the songs.

The cover songs sound great with the Scorpions giving them the Scorpions treatment. Remember this is Scorpions 2012 sound and not 1985 Scorpions sound but they still sound great!

Tainted Love seems like an odd choice for a Scorpions cover as most people think (or thought) it was a Soft Cell song that was massive popular in the 80's. The song was originally written in the 60's by Ed Cobb and recorded by Gloria Jones. After hearing the track, Scorpions do an excellent cover of the song! If you are only familiar with the Soft Cell version and it's 80's synth sound, hearing it played on Flying V's though Marshall Amps blows away that version. The song does sound powerful and the band does a great job!

T. Rex gets covered next and it sounds great!

Now we get into the weak area of the album, The Beatles track "Across The Universe" is in my opinion the weakest song on the album. Of course, the fact that I am not at all a Beatles fan may have something to do with it. I know how much The Beatles influenced hard rock music but I just don't like their songs.

A Small Faces cover is up next and it's a little better than than the previous track. The album is back on track with "All Day And All Of The Night", a great hard rocking cover.

The album closes with The Rolling Stone's "Ruby Tuesday" and it's a great way to close out the album. I'm not a Rolling Stones fan (and I tend to like Stone's cover songs better than the originals) but The Scorpions do a great job on this one!

Overall a good album and worth picking up!

I just finished listening to this album literally two minutes ago! Very Happy

Anyway... I've had COMEBLACK for a week or two and I am diggin' it but I like the second half of the album (i.e. the cover songs) better than the first half. I kinda wish they'd gone and done a whole album of cover songs and didn't bother with the re-recording of their own shiz. The only re-recording I really dig is "Rhythm of Love" cuz it has more balls than the way-too-polished SAVAGE AMUSEMENT version. The rest don't sound too radically different from their original versions.

...f they really felt that they had to re-track some of their own oldies, maybe they could've been a little more adventurous with the song selection. The re-recordings might've been cooler if they'd dug up some obscurities from their 70s albums instead of simply throwing down a new batch of the usual suspects... but whatever, they obviously chose not to ask for my input on the track listing. Very Happy

Love the covers of "Tainted Love," "Across the Universe," "All Day & All of the Night" and "Ruby Tuesday."

Every good band comes back for a curtain call at the end of the show and that's what COMEBLACK is ... a quick "encore."

For a very long time i thought the Scorpions were an american band. Rock you like a Hurricane was used in so many american movies or even the Simpsons, some of their songs from Face the Heat (No Pain No Gain and other ones) were used in the Sega CD version of World Cup USA '94, so i thought that must be from there. Then i learned they are german and i wondered why they get next to no airplay here in Germany. Of course Wind of Change gets played to death for the past 22 years as it is basically the "Theme song of the german reunification" (and the only other 2 songs that are played on the radio are Rock you like a Hurricane and Still loving you).
Their best selling albums in Germany are Crazy World, Savage Amusement, Face the Heat and Eye II Eye.
It's crazy how unpopular they are in their home country, even though they are the best-selling german rock/metal band ever.

Years ago when Eye II Eye was current, VH1 did a segment on Scorpions on their "Where Are They Now" show. The band did their interview from a hotel in Malaysia (?) where they reported the Eye II Eye album had topped the charts and gone gold there.

...to this day I still wonder how many copies you need to sell to get a gold record in Malaysia. Fifty? A hundred? Very Happy

I think bands feel like they have to record a Beatles song. I just don't see them influencing metal bands as much as the Stones or Who. I'm not saying they weren't good in some ways but I find them mostly boring to listen too.

Unfortunately, I was not able to grow up with these guys. Crazy World came out when I was in middle school, and I fell head over heels in love with this album. I bought Alien Nation as a new release, and I still really enjoy it to this day.

That being said...

After hearing "Hurricane" on the radio for about the 9 millionth time, I was done with the Scorps. My interest was rekindled when I heard a podcast that featured the Scorps discography as the subject of interest. Then I read Ults review of their early stuff and started listening again. Wow! I was blown away! How did such a pile of crap like Hurricane get all the airplay when stuff like "The Zoo" and "He's a Woman..." is so much better?

Sting in the Tail is definitely my second fave Scorps album behind Crazy World, but Animal Magnetism and Lovedrive are coming up the list fast.

Right before blackout came out the scorpions came through the city I was living in at the time. I wasn't very familiar with them yet. I had heard the Zoo and lovedrive on the radio but didn't connect the dots when they came through on tour. insane
The very next week I heard blackout and was blown away. A friend told me and they had just played in town. Boy was I kicking myself. No

I consider Scorpions to be one of my favorite bands. I've pretty much grown up with these guys, my parents were both fans. I remember hearing songs from Savage Amusement and Face the Heat when I was a kid, and when I got older I started exploring their 70's stuff and was hooked, everything from Lonesome Crow to Blackout is my favorite. I'm particularly fond of In Trance. I don't mind a lot of the newer stuff, I really enjoy Pure Instinct, Crazy World, Humanity Hour 1 and Sting in the Tail, even some stuff from Eye to Eye. I don't care much about Unbreakable, Comeblack, or Return to Forever.
