It's pretty cool. It is kinda like Seiges Even meets Rush and Watchtower(with a way better drum sound). The bass player sings(who is not a bad singer by any means) a lot of the songs and then for a few they have a high pitched singer. It was funny finding out that they all liked Jethro Tull, ELP and Rush amongst the 70s and early 80s metal bands.

The production on the 2010 songs is wierd. I don't know if they going for the sound that the rest of the songs have but they don't have the glossy 2010 sound. They sound like they were recorded back then.

I also wanted to ask you about Lucifers Friend, Are they Uriah Heep, Deep Purple or Black Sabbath sounding or do they have their own unique sound? I've been wanting to check them out.

Have you heard the female sung "I Talk to the Wind"? It's a really good version that is on A Young Person's Guide To King Crimson that is only on cassette and LP, as far as I know.

Less rock, but a better album, I think. My favorite Mercy Creek album is "Dirty Water". I'm glad to see someone else knows about them.

Lucifer's Friend is a bit of an anomaly, because they never really repeated the same style twice on an album. Here's a general breakdown:

Lucifer's Friend (1971) - firmly in the proto-metal camp, somewhere between Sabbath & Heep.

Where The Groupies Killed The Blues (1972) - second album is total prog, not unlike King Crimson from that era. (this one is my favorite)

I'm Just A Rock N Roll Singer (1973) - this album sounds like the US market was a potential target. Some songs are just straight-ahead hard rock, some still lean in a prog direction. First album where they add many additional studio musicians (choirs, horn sections, etc)

Banquet (1974) - here they completely change direction and record a lush pop/fusion album complete with 30 piece orchestra, etc.

Mind Exploding (1976) - They jettison the fusion angle (mostly) and go back to more straight ahead hard rock.

Those are the core early albums with the original lineup.

I like all of those records, probably most metal fans would only have patience for the first 2 would be my guess...but I love well arranged material, so Lucifer's Friend's more artistic leanings are right up my alley. They were all studio musicians and their keyboardist/arranger was classically trained, so there are layers upon layers of details to be noticed on repeated listening.
