Blackmore was ON FIRE during this gig. He's one of those "hot or cold" type players (Jeff Beck and Santana as well)...but he was definitely firing on all cylinders here. Most impressive are the LONG improvisations during Mandrake Root and Wring That Neck. Purple was most definitely a live act and Blackmore took risks, so sometimes he soared and sometimes he landed right on his face.

But how many people would even take that risk these days? Not enough.
