| What's interesting with me is how back in the 80's I tended to like the hit songs and maybe a few others off Glam/Sleaze albums. Those few songs would be played into the ground and I'd move on. Today, I'm more likely to be a fan of the whole album. I've become more album oriented rather than just a song listener.
Overall, I'm still into what I've always been. It's cyclical depending on the mood but nothing previously loved has been totally dropped. Some things (Anthrax, I'm looking at you) just collect more dust than listens these days.

- I am not the way you guys are. I still listen to the same stuff i listen when i was young (anyway, i still think i am young). The different is that back in 1989 i had 100 lps or less and now i have a lot more, but i still play my records all the time, some more then others, but i still like anything i liked 10 or 20 years back.
Same here, and I also listen to many different types of music, so that helps too, but still liked what I liked back then. Likewise. There may be times when I'm not in the mood to hear a particular band or genre, but eventually I'll want to hear 'em again. And most of the stuff I listened to in the late seventies and early eighties still qualifies as all time favorites.

| I will always be a Metal fan. But it is certainly not the only thing I listen to. Just this week my listening tastes have been extremely varied. On the way to work this morning, I was playing Exodus. While at work I listened to the indie rock of Hotel Lights and Eskobar. On the way home I cranked some Neurosis. Over this past weekend I listened to some Cheap Trick and King's X. I'm about to go now and snag a Dio CD off of Ebay. After which I'll go grab my son's H.I.M. CDs and rip a couple to my iPod.
Variety is the spice of life, baby! _________________ FINAL SIGN

| Which Dio album did you want to get?
Also Faith No More are awesome. I met Mike Patton about 2 years ago when he was on tour in Australia promoting the Peeping Tom album.

| Sacred Heart is not a bad one but I seldom listen to it. I'm not sure what it is about that album but it kinda feels like a middle of the road album - bridging the gap between the first two solo albums and the latter 80s releases.
On that note, my tastes in Dio's albums have changed throughout the years. I remember when I first got into Dio's solo material I was very much into Holy Diver and Last in Line. However, while I still like those albums, I find myself listening more to Lock Up The Wolves and Strange Highways these days.
In fact I find those two albums to be some of the most underrated from Dio's solo career. Lock Up The Wolves is not a huge departure from Dio's earlier albums, if anything it sounds like a culmination of Dio's 80s albums - it's a cross-over between Last In Line and Dream Evil. For some reason however Dio did not seem too content about that album - I remember about 2 years ago seeing an interview with Dio from the early 90s where he apologised for how Lock Up The Wolves turned out without more. I'm not sure why he had to apologise for that album - there is nothing wrong with it and it is in many ways the last of the 'classic' sounding Dio albums.
Strange Highways in a sense picks up the pace from Dehumanizer. Stylistically it shares the sludgy, bottom-heavy sound of Dehumanizer but at the same time it is not as constricted creatively as Dehumanizer was. For me at least , Dehumanizer felt a little stiff at times and that is probably due to the clash of egos in Sabbath at the time.
So if you haven't heard those two albums yet I really recommend them.

| Iron Maiden, Priest, GNR and Metallica records are rarely spinners in my car. For the last couple of years, i've been getting into the extremely rich heritage of the 80's glam, heavy and thrash metal scenes.
It's so rich i cannot get enough of it.

| the dust gatherers in my house right now are mostly early 90's stuff (various sorts of extreme metal and goth). I think this is just because it's recent enough to still be tired of it, but not long enough for the nostalgia effect ot have kicked in yet. Usually though if I like something at one time I always like it forever, at least in small doses. For example I still enjoy my Osmond Brothers records from time to time (it's true!). | |

| I listen more to what attracted me to music in the first place. The stuff I learned to play on. The concept of recollecting a memory from my youth via an old song does more for me than just a mere dynamic of something fast and aggressive. Which I also enjoy alot as the mood suits me. The only constant it seems is that if I have an itch to hear a certain band, i will listen to everything that I have by that band.

I actually think all the Dio albums up to and including Angry Machines are really good...after that, they get a little spotty for me in terms of songs I like. But Dio himself still sounds amazing singing them. He could sing the phonebook and make it classic. _________________ FINAL SIGN

| Like others, I too had a love affair with Euro-power metal and while I still listen to it I rarely get bands I don't know of, I just stick with familiar ones. I also had a love affair with symphonic goth metal but again I just limit to familiar bands these days.
Like those who are obsessed with glam/sleeze, I have my obsession in melodic hard rock/AOR, hair bands, and hard rock in general (which could include some of the glam/sleeze, I'm still not sure on the semantics of that genre). Melody, catchiness, and sing-a-long choruses are the overall requirements of my musical choice these days.
I am also investing in classic metal and American power metal whenever I can find them at good prices. I also still dabble in the occasional thrash but I'm getting a bit more picky in that area seeing as too many of the new wave and retro bands sound too much alike. Also like Ult, I was obssesed with death metal in the early 90s but I have grow away and listen to it only sparingly these days.

Bingo! That's it for me too. We'll make a glam/sleaze convert out of you yet DB... _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
