Dio - Lock Up The Wolves

I got this one in the mail today, and upon my first listen i've found it very enjoyable. I put if off for awhile because of some reviews, but I'm glad I picked it up.

I like "Hey Angel" from that disc, but otherwise, I can't really remember much from it. I remember being disappointed with it when I first bought it. I love Dio but this is probably one of my least favorites.

Give it another spin sometime, I was disappointed with Anthrax's We've Come For You All upon my first listen and now its one of my favourite Thrax albums.

I spin it every once in a while when I get into a DIO mood and start playing all his albums. It's not a bad album, just never was one of my favorites. One cool album cover though.

i always thought Lock Up The Wolves was an underrated disc. i know it's not Holy Diver but i think it stands up with the rest of his catalog.

I'd have to agree with Ult on this one...it's not Ronnie's worst disc (that honor would go to ANGRY MACHINES in my book) but it's not his best either. Other than "Hey Angel," it is just kinda "there" if you know what I mean.

I think Tracy Grijalva was just the wrong guitarist for Dio.

I liked 'Angry Machines'. Not Dio's best album, but some cool songs. I really like "Institutional Man".

"Strange Highways" (w/ Tracy G) is in my Top 3 Dio albums!

Same here, it's a really underrated album.

I think there were times when Tracy G shined and wrote some cool guitar parts. Goldy is a highly skilled guitarist who I don't think has written many cool guitar parts at all.

I can't really think of a guitarist right now who would work great with Dio, except Iommi. That guy that played on "Killing the Dragon" is an amazing guitarist but the songwriting was really dull on that one IMHO. What happened to uptempo rockers with cool riffs like "Stand Up and Shout" or "I Speed at Night"? Really I think Dio was at his best when he was in Sabbath. They were just a great team, whether it was with Ward or Appice IMHO.

Agree with this. But Holy Diver and The Last in Line are very close to the Sabbath stuff.

I really like the title track. I guess Wild One is pretty cool too. I agree that Angry Machines is the worst of his releases .

I'd agree with that as well. I tend to reach for Mob Rules or Heaven & Hell more than his solo works, which are quality too, just personal preference.
