Did any of you ever buy a pre-recorded Minidisc album during that craze?

This is the only one that I have ever seen. I bought it for cheap at a record store that went out of business 9 years ago... they had a bunch of just Zappa ones. So I do not even know if other band used this media.

Minidiscs S25369

Frank Zappa - Apostrophe / Overnite Sensation

I still have my component and MD walkman... still use them to convert my vinyl.

We used to use Mini-discs to archive mono-voiceover recordings (they were used for telephone messages so the quality didn't have to be great). They were incredibly easy to use but the compression scheme it has to use on music is real ugly.

It always sounded like you lost high and low end.

I was working in a K-Mart when Minidiscs were introduced. I remember seeing a big display of the players and a few music discs in the electronics department but they never seemed to move any of them. The display disappeared after a month or two and they were never spoken of again.

Around the same time they also tried to launch "DCC" (Digital Compact Cassettes) on the public, they didn't last long either. Anyone remember those? They also came and went from the store I worked at in just a few short months.

Don't know if it is what you guys are talking about, but I have a 3-inch CD single of Stryper's "Always There For You" that I got a the Cornerstone Festival in Illinois some years back.

I never bought a pre-recorded one, but I had a portable player for a few years. The radio station at Cedarville college used one for all of the interviews and things and it got me hooked. It was great because I could edit a 10 minute interview down to 2 1/2 minutes right on the player/recorder without ever having to go back to the studio. I had several blank minidiscs and I used to record stuff to it - mostly the audio from concert DVD's.

Nope but I liked the idea of a minidisc (not to replace the CD mind you)
