Just seeing if there is an off chance anyone likes anything by Plumb/Tiffany Arbuckle Lee (it stopped being a band and turned into just her solo thing after a couple of albums)..
I ask because 'candycoatedwaterdrops' is one of my favorite albums. To describe, the core is a very soft pop/rock, a slight alternative feel, but there are all kinds of interesting elements woven into the album...a lot of dream-pop influence, some electronic stuff...beautiful orchestration here and there. A very very bittersweet album that conjures up a lot of stuff for me. If you heard one of the more mainstream songs on the later albums see if you like these instead.. (some of my favorites from different albums)

I've always wanted to check them out because I'm a sucker for a girl singer. That's why I like Skyliner so much.
I kid because I love.
I'll check out the above posted items when I am somewhere that allows me to see them.

Well actually we do now have a hot chick in the band. I'm not stupid.

Much better stuff then that other girl band with the shrieking. I don't usually get into this stuff but a place I worked at they would play this and it seemed to grow on me. There is depth to this.

I like Plumb. Don't have any of their albums, so I might have to track something down.
I remember when they first came out back in the 90s. I had a few songs on comps. Good stuff.

I like Plumb. I have the S/T and candcoatedwaterdrops. The first album is heavier, but the arrangements and diversity on the second are really thoughtful. Very catchy and intelligent stuff.

That's what I like. Catchy (hooks) and intelligence. Those two things can make any band or artist go far.
That's also why I'm a huge fan of bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure. They were never riding trends. In many ways they were much like metal bands. Playing music they love and not selling out to trends. They may have 'started' trends, but they weren't the ones riding them.
Hooks and intelligence are very important to me in my music. Much more important to me in fact, than if they are actually 'metal' or not. I guess in many ways I am not a real metal head. Just more of a music head.
So I dig stuff like this and others.

Well that's why I enjoy so much music as well, and especially heavy metal. Because I find a lot more care and intent and intelligence spread out overall in it than in most other genres, and it contains a wide diversity as well. 'Hooks' really depends what you mean. A pop song structure, i.e. verse, chorus, verse, bridge etc, done well? I love those. But other forms of composition are just as memorable for me, something now considered non-linear for example, a classical, jazz, or experimental ethos where the composition has many hills and valleys. In any case I crave some kind of intellectual stimuli in my art (and be sure to not confuse that with 'overly serious' and then assail the idea of being serious) so that can surely be considered a unifying thread in what I enjoy listening to.
Here's another one I like, though I don't enjoy a ton of stuff off the album it's from..

I saw them when they were touring for the first album - they put on a really good show. I remember that the bass player was from Sixpence None the Richer

Yep, Good Stuff, her band ( The members minus her, in a side project - sorry the name slips me right now )was once an up and coming force and won a Battle of the bands contest that was suppose to have the winner getting a records deal.

Me too. They were one of the first non-metal bands I liked coming out of my all-metal late teens/early 20s! Again, great arrangements and orchestration, great lyrics. So much more than their saccharine smash hit!
