What I can't understand about Easter and I guess this is the same for others with different religious beliefs, I'm a Catholic and we have Good Friday, well for the life of me I can't understand what's good about it, we can't eat Meat and all the Pubs (Bars, off licences etc.....) are closed, ohh and we have to work. I think it should be renamed "Lousy" Friday, and not to mention that the big JC didn't have such a swell day either on "Good" Friday

It's called Good Friday because of the sacrifice Jesus made - by dying on the cross, he took the place of our sins so when we stand before God, he'ss say "Yo, G, they are with me"

The whole "can't eat meat on Friday" thing is man-made, not scriptural, so I say eat it to your heart's content! God won't mind...the church might, but who are you following?

Actually, the earliest Christians from the time of Christ fasted on Wednesdays and Fridays in opposition to the Jews who fasted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most Orthodox Christian communities still follow this practice in Eastern lands, not as some sort of rule, but as a way to get rid of the passions and "not live by bread alone." It's actually a beautiful thing and in a sense, very scriptural, because fasting is found all over the OT & NT writings. Peace.

If fasting from anything is done with true reverence to the Lord and is part of a focus to get closer to Him, then yeah.

But if it's practiced as just a traditional thing and done for the sake of that alone, then it's useless to the person and to the Lord.

That was my point, hence the "beauty" of the practice when done with the right intentions.

I really like this a lot my Greek Orthodox brother!!! Cool stuff.

The more I examine different denominations, the more and more I'm seeing the Greek Orthodox is closest to the truth I see in God's Word! At least me personally, anyway.



I like how they are more 'spiritual minded' too, and don't take each part of the Bible as 'literal'. The Bible is more 'symbolic' to them, but still God's pure Word.

I like that.

I also like how you don't have to be an extreme 'right-wing' type to be part of their church. They are very politically open-minded and tend to find positive things in other areas where most Christians wouldn't!

I almost went to a Greek Orthodox Church today for Easter. I didn't though. Hey, Grand - did you ever get that PM I sent you about your church?
