Um...please, no. Just no. I got nothin' against Ed Helms, he's a funny guy, but nobody can be Frank Drebin but Leslie Nielsen.
That's as bad as Steve Martin playing Inspector Clouseau. That's a role playable only by Peter Sellers.

I find it hard to believe there is still an audience for the Naked Gun style parody films, look at how badly most of the attempts at this genre have flopped over the past couple years, doesn't bode well.

I happen to like those Martin films so I disagree.

I like Steve Martin a lot but those films, while not train wrecks, just weren't quite right. It came across as Martin doing a poor Sellers imitation.

I love Steve Martin but he's NOT Clouseau, Sellers was the one and only. Blake Edwards should be ashamed of himself for constantly trying to reboot the character with different actors.

I saw the Martin films before I saw the originals, so I guess that's why I like them more then most people do.

New Naked Gun? No thanks..... I don't care who is in it. The original ones were great (well, the first two were great the third one had a few laughs, but that was about it.) That's not a movie that needs to be re-made. I remember watching the original series back when it first aired....and was bummed it didn't continue. Had to see the movie as soon as it came out.
And the Steve Martin Pink Panther flick? No thanks - saw the previews and that's all I needed to see of it.....
I agree with SD - these types of movies seem to be DOA at the box office.... no sure why some exec thought this was a good idea......

I watched some of Depp's earlier films like Nick Of Time and I couldn't believe it was same guy who played Jack Sparrow, he was totally different in that film and much better, I wish he would do more roles like that. The most recent film I actually liked him in was The Tourist because he actually a fairly normal character who wasn't a total lunatic, I also liked him in Once Upon A Time In Mexico.
He's real good in the Ninth Gate as well, excellent film.

Rumors that R&B singer Chris Brown has signed on for the role of Nordberg cannot be confirmed at this time.

I agree with you, I freaking HATE that show(as do both of my parents) and it's not exactly fondly remembered by that many people, so i'm baffled as to why someone would want to make a film adaption of it.(though at the very least it probably won't suck as bad as the show)

Cool. I hope it's a gritty, dark reboot that's all the rage these days with robots made from coconuts & bamboo and lots of implied sexual tension between Skipper and his "little buddy".
Gilligan needs to be recast as a sullen, moody teen that spies on Ginger and Maryann in the gratuitous waterfall/shower scenes.
Thurston Howell the III is like Donald Trump and it's later revealed that he plans on buying the Skipper's Boat Tour company with plans to knock it down to build a luxery hotel casino. Which whould explain why a billionaire with his own fleet of yachts would go on a 3-hour tour on that crappy Minnow. I see Stiffler's mom as the perfect Lovey too.
And cast a black guy as the Professor, because why not.
Just no CGI spider. Use the orignal...
There should also be a scene where the castaways stumble upon the grave of Sherwood Schwartz and piss all over it.

In my HubPage blog about SyFy's upcoming crazy shark movies (i.e. Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, Sharknado 2, etc.) I commented that with all the interest in shark films, it may be the right time for a dark, gritty big budget live action reboot of this oldie but goody...
...to be directed by Tim Burton, of course (or perhaps Rob Zombie). They can get the remaining members of As I Lay Dying to portray the Neptunes. Those guys can probably use the work, since their singer will likely be going up the river soon.

Speaking of gritty reboots, there is actually a fairly funny and entertaining youtube channel called GrittyReboots with these homemade trailers spoofing innocuous material with a gritty vibe. Here's the one for Calvin & Hobbes:

plus they need a metal-ized version of the theme song.

I love some of the comments in this thread. I get that remakes get frowned upon as they mess with our memroies of our favorite movies.
But when I see things like "Only Jack Nicholson can play The Joker" or "Only Leslie Nielsen can play Frank Drebin" it makes me laugh because we only say those things because it's what we know.
If Jack Palance had played The Joker in the '89 Batman movie, or if Tim Conway had played Frank Drebin in all the NG movies, we'd be saying only THEY could play those roles.
