| Suicidal Tendencies-Nobody Hears, Hate You Better, Captain Stupid, etc. (Rocky George is a VERY underrated guitarist) Queensryche-Anybody Listening, Eyes Of A Stranger, Silent Lucidity, I Don't Believe In Love, and more Savatage-All That I Bleed, Gutter Ballet, Believe, This Is The Time, Alone You Breathe, Hall Of The Mountain King, Edge Of Thorns, He Carves His Stone, Miles Away, Ghost In The Ruins, etc. (Any solo of Savatage or Criss in general gets me wailing on my air guitar). Dream Theater-Pull Me Under, Spirit Carries On, Lie, Scarred, Another Day, About To Crash, etc. (Any Petruci Solo, see Savatage) Guns & Roses-Sweet Child, Estranged, November Rain, Dead Horse, Paradise City, You Could Be Mine, Civil War, and more (Slash rules!) Metallica-any solo before Load (of crap). Anthrax-any solo by Spitz Slayer-any solo (before I go any further, my favortie aspect of thrash are the awesome solos so I won't mention anymore because I have yet to hear a thrash solo that I don't like) Helloween-If I Could Fly, Eagle Fly Free, Lavdate Dominvm, Wake Up The Mountain, etc. (notice a pattern here?) Hammerfall-Legacy Of Kings, At The End Of The Rainbow, etc. Iron Maiden-ALL OF THEM (Wasted Years and Stranger In A Strange Land are my favorite. .....Hell! I Give Up!!!!!
In conclusion there are so many solos that I love that it could be it's own website so it's best that I stop here. I wish I had the patience to learn the guitar myself but I never had it (tried twice and gave up each time). Any guitar I had I pretended to play (air guitar w/ a guitar) and ever since I consider myself an air guitar virtuoso. There are so many solos that drive me to bring out my air guitar no matter where I am (people stare at me but I really don't care!). When people ask me why I like heavy metal the only answer I can give them is the combination of melody, power, and speed, and especially the mind-blowing guitar solos. In conclusion here are my 20 favorite guitar soloists:
Criss Oliva, John Petrucci, The Maiden Trio (tie), C.J. Grimmark, Slash, John Shaffer, Andy LaRocque, Al Petreli, Alex Skolnick, Aaron Guerra (Tourniquet), André Olbrich (Blind Guardian), Danny Spitz, Dimebag, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman (tie), Oscar Dronjak and Stefan Elmgren (Hammerfall, tie), Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing (tie), Luca Turilli, Gary Wherkamp and Brendt Allman (Shadow Gallery, tie), Dave Sabo and Scotty Hill (Skid Row, tie), and Steve Perry (Aerosmith).

I think Follow Me is Criss' best. The whole Edge OfTHorns album has killer solos. I'll also say Mr Crowley and Stryper - Surrender. |
