I was out doing Pumpkin Chunkin this weekend with our trebuche:
It has a 300 pound counterweight and we launch pumpkins, water bottles, rocks. Our furthest launch was 85 yards..

Cool. Do you compete in that yearly contest they hold in Delaware? I've always wanted to attend.

not yet but we are thinking of it. We have done some smaller venues and demonstrations since we just started. Its a small trebuche (by rules) but it is a lot of fun.

Just so you know, I had no idea what a "trebuche" was so I looked it up. There's a "T" on the end of that word. Still would have had no idea what it was though.

It's sorta like a catapult, but can chuck much bigger and heavier things using counterweights. I've seen them toss a piano like it was a softball.
EDIT: Jerry Lee Lewis would be proud. Actually, he'd probably want to kick some dirty, hippie Burning Man ass.

nice! Ours isnt that big due to a size and weight limit. Its fun to throw stuff and do all the adjustment to make it better...

So far the only side effect I've seen is their new-found propensity to jump around whenever Primus comes on the radio.
