Went and saw Revocation last night, who are currently on the "Metal as Art" tour. They were playing at the Lion's Lair here in Denver, which is the very definition of a dive bar. I've rented apartments bigger than that place, and it has all the charm and character of a 50 year old crack addict, right down to the 18 inch high wooden stage and the leopard-skin print curtains on the windows.
In other words, LL is a kickass place to see a metal band.
So, seeing Revocation play was awesome, for three main reasons
1. Their music crushes
2. They are high-intensity and tight as hell live
3. They have lots of fun playing. (Remember bands actually having fun during a show?)
Their set was like being transported back to an 80s thrash gig. (No moshing or pits though, LL is way to small for that.) Great atmosphere, great banter from Mr. David Davidson between songs, and great energy throughout. The only bummer was that there was only 35-40 people in the entire place, and that included all the band members. A lot of metal fans in Denver missed out.
If you still have an opportunity to see Revocation on tour, do not miss them.
EDIT: In case you're not familiar with Revocation; first, slap yourself, then check them out here.
