| I know neuropete will agree with me on this one! Anyone else into The Smiths? They were one of the innovators of alternative rock way back in the 80s. They only released 4 albums before disbanding, but they are all arguably good. The lead singer, Morrissey then went on to a successful solo career and their guitarist, Johnny Marr is now in the alternative rock group from Oregon, Modest Mouse. | |

| I got into the Smiths, long after they had disbanded, but I always felt they where great band and Johnny Marr is one of the best guitarist in the early alternative rock scene, 'Meat is Murder' is an absolute classic. | |

I got into them long after they disbanded too. I'm just now catching up with them actually. Manny, do you like Modest Mouse? Johnny Marr sounds great still!

Me too. TheQueen is Dead is awesome. Beginners might like to start (as I did) with the album 'Singles', which is a compilation of.... um, their singles .

| OOOOH my God! I have been waiting for this post all of my life! Hee hee hee. Thanks 'Blaze! Yup, I love the Smiths. Oddly enough, I also got into them just after they had broken up. I graduated high school in '88, and got into them when I was in college. A friend of my brothers lent him a copy of their self-titled debut, as well as a copy of Morrissey's Viva Hate. I immediately taped (lol..way before 'burning') each one onto a side of the same c-90 tape (high bias, of course), and played the heck out of that tape. From the opening chords "Reel Around the Fountain", I was hooked. I had been a huge metal head in high school, and this was my first steps venturing into alternative and other forms of music. Literally, they changed my musical perspective. I still love me the metal, but as you can see from my posts I now have a wide range of musical tastes. | |

| You and me are a lot alike Neuropete. I was heavily into metal during my early years. Then I discovered Depeche Mode, U2 and The Cure. Those 3 bands really brought me into a whole other world, musically speaking. I didn't discover The Smiths until a few years ago actually. I still need to get all the rest of their stuff and get Morrissey's stuff too. Neuro, are you a fan of Johnny Marr's new band, Modest Mouse? | |

| My freshman-year college roommate was huge into this band. I used to annoy him by sarcastically confusing them with The Cure. Haven't heard'em since then though. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Neuro, are you a fan of Johnny Marr's new band, Modest Mouse? Yes, I liked Modest Mouse even before Johnny Marr pitched in for their latest one. I actually have "Float On" as one of my ringtones! I also like the album he put out as Johnny Marr and the Healers. You should check it out. He has done alot of excellent guest work with several bands, including The The. Actually, back in 93, I saw Depeche Mode live in Austin, and The The opened up for them. Marr was actually playing with them, so it was a cool experience for me. Although I've seen Morrissey live around 5 times, I never got to see the Smiths together.

I'll have to check out the other stuff Johnny Marr has done. Oh, I totally forgot to mention the side project Marr had with Bernard Sumner from New Order... it was called Electronic. I was really into them back college. I loved the singe, "Get the Message" from their 1991 self titled debut. Dang, almost 20 years since that! where does the time go. If you like New Order, you'll like this one. Has the lead singer from Pet Shop Boys in a couple of tunes too.

| Much like The Cure, my interest in the Smiths has declined over the years. Not sure why either. Just doesn't do it for me like it used to.
That first Electronic album is incredible.
My favorite REM song (joined by Marr on stage)

They actually released several albums. I need to catch up on those. They have two other albums, but I never purchased them. I should have... I really like Electronic. I gave the CD another spin in the car after talking about them here, and had forgotten how much I liked the CD. I remember back in college I would always recommend it to my pals.

| The Smiths was one of those bands that, when I was in school, I always passed over because of all the "Drama Club Kids" that were into them...haha!!
But, as I get older, I have come to love them!! The music and the vibe is just so cool...
I had no idea Johnny Marr was in Modest Mouse.... _________________ FINAL SIGN
