Muse

I was pretty skeptical about this, since it seemed pretty contived (they have every influence but the kitchen sink in there. A lot of Queen influence of course, but a million other flavors as well, from dancy synth pop to symphoninc prog (if not metal). For all that it's pretty well put together, and I gottta say it's growing on me. Then again I am known as a sucker for cheese and pomp, so maybe I'm helpless against this sort of stuff.

I really enjoy the Muse songs ESPN continually uses behind their highlight clips but I've read reviews of this album that make me think I would hate it.

not big on teh hipster progz...although I will give that it is not as irritating as Radiohead.

I think you are right in that you might like some of the individual songs (they even remind me of City Boy at times), but the whole presentation is kinda contrived. Muse is to Queen as Tinted Windows is to Cheap Trick- savy?

They are coming to the arena where I work, so I had to do some promotional work for these guys. I'm not familair with them at all, but from what I've heard, it's not my bag in the least bit. Pass.

I actually really enjoy most of their songs!!!

I am huge fan of Muse, some great songs and I would go see them live in a heartbeat.

I really like their stuff. I remember hearing one of their songs, I think it was "Reborn", on a French horror Flick (High Tension?). I found out they recorded it, bought the album it was in, and then went and got their entire catalogue. Good stuff.

Doing my research for them, it looks like they put on a decent live show. At least they put some effort into it. Probably be pretty cool if that's your thing. However good the stage show is, I'd still have to listen to that music. Ick. Sorta like getting fellatio from Fran Drescher. Not a bad visual, but you still have to hear that voice at some point.

HORRIBLE band. Not a fan at all.

I'm really getting into some of there songs, but I know I cant take either of their last 2 albums all the way through...

Looks like I was wrong about these guys. I picked up Absolution on a whim for $2 bucks at a pawn shop and much to my surprise, I'm liking it. Like SAHB Healer mentioned, they are all over the place with musical influences, but they make it work.

This sort of music is usually way, way, way outta my comfort zone, but something about this album is quite good. I must be mellowing out more in my old age. Can't be an angry young man forever.

BUMP...

I pulled Absolution out of the moth balls today and I'm enjoying it even more than before. Now I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing out on their others.

Any other album recomendations? Any one in particular I should investigate or avoid?

PS Any mod that wants to move this out of the dead zone will get an ice cold soda pop on me.

They're like a blend of Rush, Queen and Duran Duran...love them.

Good comparison! That's what I'm hearing on Absolution.... need to listen to some of their other albums sometime.

I don't know enough about Duran Duran to make any comparrisions, (I don't hear any 'Hungry Like The Wolf' ) but I do like how they balance the light with the heavy, if that makes sense.

I guess what I'm asking is if that light/heavy back and forth is indicative of their sound overall or was it exclusive to the Absolution album?

That's just what Muse sounds like...

I see. Looks like I might be investing in some more Muse in the near future.

They're still terrible...

But at least they are lightyears better than Coldplay - that band produces THE most repulsive music known to man - seriously, their music leaves me gobsmacked - and not in a good way..

Their vocalist puts me off big time.
