I been listening to a lot of soul/r&b acts lately. Gladys Knight, Sam & Dave, and James Brown are some of my favorites so far. This is one of the few musical genres that really doesn't come up here that often, and I was just curious if anybody likes the stuff.
So, anyone into it? Favorite bands, etc?

I have a great appreciation for Motown and stuff like James Brown, Sam & Dave, etc. because I heard so much of it growing up. And, oddly enough, from listening to the Blues Brothers. Aside from the blues, they covered allot of soul/r&b. But I own very little, other than the odd Greatest Hits collection here & there.

If you're looking for a collection of good greatest hits, I could probably rattle off quite a few artist/groups but my favorite artist would be that of Sam Cooke (You Send Me or A Change Is Gonna Come), and my favorite group would be that of the 5th Dimension (Workin' On A Groovy Thing or Wedding Bell Blues). I will state this with total conviction. I don't think there's EVER been a better vocal group than this group. Others that I would recommend:
The Stylistics (Betcha By Golly Wow) The Spinners (Could It Be I'm Falling In Love) The Delfonics (La-La Means I Love You) The Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose (Too Late to Turn Back Now) Martha Reeves & The Vandellas (Love Is Like A Heatwave) Major Lance (The Monkey Time) Smokey Robinson & The Miracles (Going to a Go-Go)
*I listed a song next to each artist, regarding my personal favorite.

Yes, I like Soul and R & B, but only from the 60's and the 70's. I can't stand any of it from the 80's onward, and specially not the crap that passes as Soul/R & B today. But, I do love Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, the Isley Brothers, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Wilson Pickett, Al Green, Booker T and the MGs, Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, the Delfonics, The Platters, Smokey Robinson, James Brown... man, I could go on and on.
