| Sad news for wrestling fans past & present. Legendary pro wrestler and manager Captain Lou Albano dies. I wasn't a wrestling fan during his day but I am more than familiar with his work through old videos and historical research. I'm most familiar with him as Mario on the Super Mario Brother's Super Show when I was a kid. R.I.P Captain Lou.

At least this is a wrestling death due to natural causes which unfortunatly is a very rare occasion.

| Wow. That is a shame. A true wrestling legend that I was lucky enough to see actually wrestle in person. R.I.P. | |

| Yeah I heard this. It is sad. I never saw him wrestle but I sure remember him as a manager; especially when he managed The Wild Samoans. Check out this story from a guy on a wrestling site. I saw this match on TV because it was in my home town. - Quote :
- -- Greg Baumgartner of Amherst, N.Y.: My favorite Captn' Lou memory occurred during the pre-WrestleMania era at a TV taping in the old Allentown, Pa. arena. Albano, managing 'The Magnificent' Don Muraco during a squash match, was chowing down on a hero sandwich as he paced back and forth at ringside. Periodically Lou would hand his sub up to Muraco who, in complete distain for his opponent, would enjoy a few bites in between his stomping and kicking. Lou and Don must have handed that sandwich back and forth four or five times.
Don's humiliation of the poor jobber (whose name I have long forgotten) was especially sadistic, but all Vince McMahon could comment on was how completely disgusted he was by Albano, whose beard was dripping in mayonnaise and covered in lettuce shreds combined with those inexplicable but ever-present rubber bands glued to his face. Albano's outrageously arrogant, non-verbal, non-violent display of disrespect remains glued to my memory as an excellent example of how this veteran with the great promo skills could draw tremendous heat so effectively even without using a mic.

| Capt. Lou Albano was so awesome in that fued with Cyndi Lauper. It sucked when they made him a good guy. He also stole the movie Wiseguys.
Did the mystery of the rubberbands on his face ever get solved? I never quite understood that but at the time thought it was pretty cool.
RIP Capt. Lou | |

| Who voted him "Captain" anyway? C'mon Python fans, say it with me... "You don't vote for Captains..." _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| RIP. At least he lived a long life. Too often, you hear about people in wrestling drop dead before they hit 40 anymore. | |

They didn't say. My guess is natural causes. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| It could've been anything. I was reading Paul Heyman's blog the other day and he was telling some wild stories about travelling up and down the road with Albano and Blassie. Apparently Lou was just as wild in real life as he was on TV. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

If I'm not mistaken, I remember hearing from other sources and Captain Lou himself, that he became a born again Christian many years ago. Also as far as natural causes, several days ago there was a article stating that he had gotten the flu so it's possible a virus and old age did him in (anyways the family has not discosed the cause of death).

That could very well be. One of the wrestling web sites I visit asked people to write in with their favorite Albano memories and one guy wrote that he lived in the same town as Lou and went to the same church. He said Lou always stood in the back just in case a child, a woman or an elderly person needed a seat. This guy said Lou continued to do this even as his own health was failing. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I need to dig out a book the wwf used to sell at shows called The Wit and Wisdom of Capt. Lou Albano. It really was an interesting read, as in it seemed like something he really wrote. There was a whole part where he explained his religious views. I remember it well because it was the kind of thing that only could have come from a Catholic. There were also pictures from when he wrestled where the guy looked like Charles Atlas. Hard to believe it was the same person.
I wish the wrestling of today had more people like Capt. Lou. I might actually watch it then.
