A few months back, I was skimming the huge vinyl collection I inherited from my dad, and came across a little album with a pancake on it.

The cover and title were so attention-getting, I pulled it out and put it on the turntable, and....sweet buttery Jesus, it was awesome. Since then, I scored a copy of it on CD and haven't stop listening to it since. This band called Head East, who I'd never heard of until recently, has risen to becoming one of my favorite bands...and I only own one album by them!

The only 'hit' I think they ever really had was the opening song on this record, "Never Been Any Reason", which is a KILLER hard rock song, with spacey keyboard sounds, very high-voiced vocals, and one of those 2-chord guitar riffs that just grabs you and never leaves. The whole record, however, is fantastic. It's like Bachman Turner Overdrive meets Rush with a little bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd in there. I really should start looking into any other material they might have, as this debut was amazing, and I really wonder why this album isn't a staple on 'classic rock' stations.

This was the band that John Schlitt (lead singer of Petra) got his start in.

I have always wanted to hear them, but never have. I'm a Petra fan, so I'll have to check this out eventually!

That album may not be a staple on classic rock radio but Never Been Any Reason sure is.

The other album I have on vinyl by Head East that I really like was called "Gettin' Lucky". I checked Amazon and it looks like it's OOP now.

I really like their s/t (road sign) album too. "Oh Elijah" is a classic song. It also contained the original version of "Since You Been Gone", which Rainbow made into a hit a couple of years later.
The thing I'd like to have is their live double album. It was released on CD, but the CD only had part of the concert.
