| Yeah, I heard one of them at Download last year and have seen various videos of them both being played. I enjoyed the first new song (the one played at Donington) but the other one seemed less enjoyable. _________________ | |

| I'll hold making any deep set opinions until they release the CD, because for all I know, the songs may kick ass refined and recorded. _________________ | |

| Wasn't there a thread with this same title before?
Anyway, the song that sounds like a Load/Reload song has potential. The other song simply isn't a Metallica song. Both are good, but Metallica should cover punk (i.e. Green Hell/Last Caress), they shouldn't write it. It's just not right.
We'll see how these turn out in studio form (if they even end up on the next album). They're both a huge improvement over anything on St. Anger, though, and that pleases me. |

| From Blabbermouth... Rock Hard Greece: Can you tell us if the two new songs (Song#1, Song#2) that you played on the last tour will be included on the upcoming album?
Trujillo: "I don't think so. There are parts from one of the songs that may be in the album, but that depends on which songs will be finally on the album. We can't be sure, not until we sit down and listen to all the songs completed, to make sure that each and every one of them sounds perfect. But I can tell you that these two specific songs that you've heard won't make it, at least not in that form.

But I can tell you that these two specific songs that you've heard won't make it, at least not in that form. Cool. I had mentioned that these songs may not make the album. I'm glad they won't. While they were decent songs, far better than anything on St. Anger, they still didn't have that special something. Trujillo also said this: - Quote :
- "I would say that this is album is dynamic, heavy, groovin' and you'll probably be excited to know that there will be guitar solos on it! In addition, Lars remembered to tune his snare drum properly this time! For me, this album incorporates part of the dynamic and character of 'Master of Puppets', as well as the melodic style that people liked in the 'black album,' as far as the melodies are concerned. As for the general music style, much of the current material is groovy, heavy, dynamic and surely interesting. I would say that it's different than 'St. Anger' — in a good way, of course."
Now that sounds like someone who's being honest. Can we believe it? I hope so. |

Yes we have. That's why there is so much doubt.

| Heh, just watched the two youtubes... so much for return to the roots. Other than that the songs may be good in their own merit, but I personally cant care less and will skip this album as I've done with all since the black one. | |

| Now that's just silly, stormspell. They even said they probably won't be using the two songs they've been playing live on the new album. Surely it's worth giving the album a listen before passing judgement? _________________ | |

| They always say such things in interviews to keep the public interest.
What counts for me is that on both clips James explicitly says "here's a song from the upcoming new album" so for what I care they would be on the album. And if even they are the only two of a kind on the album, it is still enough for me to pass on it. It's my personal opinion man, you dont have to agree with it and are more than welcome to buy the album when its out. I surely am not interested on doing so.

| Even if it ends up stylistically being closer to their 80s material, that doesn't necessarily mean then songs will be quality. | |

| I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed haha, but not hold my breath. Not to change the subject, but one of the only bands from the old days who had a REAL nice comeback cd was Exodus, with Temple Of The Damned. The talent is sooooo there, I just can't imagine why they won't write another ass kicking cd-TJ | |

| I'll take an album like Load/Reload. I love those albums. I don't expect anything like the early stuff now. That's just setting myself up for disappointment. I've read other interviews with James, Kirk, and Lars where they've made references to St. Anger not being good. They're not blatant, but subtle. Kind of like they know the album sucks, but just won't publicly come right out and admit it. But I'd believe Trujillo first, before believing the other guys. He's got far less invested in this band; therefore it would be much easier for him to be objective about it. None of the other guys have so blatantly said the snare sound sucked on St. Anger. Haha. We'll see, I guess. They'll be playing a new song sooner or later... |

| i am hoping the new album will be a nice surprise for everyone i really am. i will buy it of course even if it sucked but after st.anger (i liked it by the way even though it aint amazing) i think they need to come back really strong or their career will go down the crapper and all they will end up doing is doing reunion tours like Kiss for years which i hope does not happpen i cant wait to see them for a second time at wembley stadium which is four weeks on friday! | |

:lol!: I cant for the life of me get excited over new Metallica material....just cant. I will give it a listen of course when it comes out but if it is anything like anything that was on St. Anger....oooyyy....man what a turd that was. It made Load and Reload sound good.

| I swore after the ST. ANGER debacle that I was through with giving money to that band and getting sub-par product in return. I spent most of the last fifteen years being continually disappointed and trying to convince myself that "OK, this album's not so great, but the next one will probably kick ass..." I finally came to my senses after I went out and bought ST. ANGER on the first day of release like a good little geek, listened to it several times and hated every single minute of it. I finally realized that "my" Metallica had left the building a LOOOONG time ago. As for the new songs, they sound OK but it's hard to judge since they're live versions and they'll probably be tweaked further in the studio before they're released. When the new album does come out I will wait till I can hear a few songs, and if I end up liking what I hear, I will then try to find a used copy. | |

Indeed, just to make it clear, I'm not holding my breath hoping they will "return to the thrash" or anything. I'm one of those old-farts which took it pretty personal when they jumped bandwagon and still have a bitter taste in my mouth. I still dig the old albums and listen to them, but dont think I'll spend a dime on anything new.

| I too can no longer get excited about any new release from Metallica. I felt burned by St. Anger like alot of other fans and I doubt I would spend anymore on this band. I'd have to hear some studio tracks first.
