Hamer you my friend are genius. Pro-Pain along with being one of my favorite bands has amazing lyrics when it comes to war and politics.

I liked Pro-Pain's first album a lot. The song "Iraqnophobia" was clever.

Left wing: Discharge. By far THE best hardcore punk band ever. Their first EP, LP and singles are just too brilliant. Plus they were a huge influence on the early thrash scene.
Right wing: Arghoslent. I'll be honest and say that I find their political views disgusting, but I still have to admit that their lyrics are suprisingly well written (no n-word this and n-word that). The music is awesomely unique. It's melodic death metal. Not like wimpy Gothenburg bands though. More like Mercyful Fate meets Iron Maiden meets Morbid Angel, if that makes any sense. Those guys have written some of the best riffs ever in extreme metal.

I'll add Nevermore to my choices as well. Although I don't necessarily think of them as a political band, they've certainly put out some opinions on society and politics in general.

I can't believe I forgot the Clash!!!!! One of my fav bands and touched on a few political topics.
Also if I can count the Sex Pistols I would throw them on my list.

My wife is really into the 60's counter culture music of the 60's from the folky stuff early in the decade to most of the Haight / Asbury scene, later on and into the early 70's.
Saying that, I am gonna have to say Mr. Bob Dylan.
