Hey, I've gotten responses for Wall of Voodoo and Daft Punk, so let's give XTC a shot! It was Primus who introduced me to these guys through their excellent cover of "Making Plans for Nigel". Their biggest (and probably only) hit in the US was "Dear God", which pissed off a lot of religious folks. I know it was banned from at least one radio station. The only album I own of theirs is a compilation called "Fossil Fuel". It's a great listen, and shows what a diverse band they are. The songs could be classified as anything from Punk Rock to New Wave. All in all, they're just a very intelligent and unique band, and I'm sure they have a few other fans on here.
Here's "Dear God"

I like 'em!
"Science Friction", "Generals and Majors", "Senses Working OVertime", etc.
One of those weird bands I have to be in the mood for but when I'm looking for some quirky new wave, they fill the bill just fine.
Sort of in the same vein as Shriekback and Gang Of Four for me.

I really like 'em. Andy Partridge wrote some really catchy pop. I've always liked Skylarking, Oranges And Lemons, and Nonsuch.

X-T-C wrote some great quirky pop songs with a slight alternative edge to them. I love the song 'This Is Pop" and 'Major of Simpleton' and 'The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead' just to name a few.

Love XTC particularly their double record English Settlement (aka the Village Green Preservation Society of the 80's).........as quintessentially English as any Kinks Klassic.
Also a fave of mine is their psychedelic alter ego Dukes Of Stratosphear, where they donned the paisley and made a record and a half of Barrett/Wilson/Lennon/Davies inspired pop...........

They also have a great rarities and leftovers disc called Rag & Bone Buffet, which would be my favorite XTC.

I had a buddy in high school who was totally over the moon for this band (as well as other, to use Rattpoison's phrase, "quintessentially English" bands/artists as Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians, Fish/Marillion, Syd Barrett's solo work, etc.) ... XTC never did much for me but I do remember seeing the video for "Senses Working Overtime" on MTV a lot in the channel's early days and dammit, I have to admit that is one catchy-as-hell pop song.
Now I'm gonna have that damn thing stuck in my head all day. "One two three four five..." Ack.
