| We didn't have the right to release Puppet of Destruction until this year. It's possible it will be remixed and re-released in the next couple years.

I can play the drums. If I didn't sing, that's what I would probably focus on. However, I am not a good enough drummer to play Ultimatum's material. The double bassing alone would kill me.

Thanks. It about killed both Sean recording the double bass on Heart of Metal with a click track. It's fast and had to be precise. You can get away with a little fluctuation live that you can't get away with in the studio. _________________

I've only ever lost my voice once, but I was already sick. It was the day I had to perform for the Once Dead DVD in 2004. I woke up not feeling well. Had a two hour practive with Once Dead that morning. Then I had a show with Ultimatum and Once Dead that night. _________________

| For anyone wondering about the quality of the Ultimatum shirts, I can attest that they are very high quality. I just recently bought the One For All shirt and the picture doesn't do the design justice. The green of the Ultimatum logo really pops. As for the ITP shirt, it's just an awesome depiction of the album cover. Buy them both! [/fanboy end] |

| ult, Who has influenced your vocals? I have heard people compare you to Steve Souza, UDO, Roger Martinez, even a lost soul comparing your to John Tardy from Obituary. I am listening to the song Symphonic Extremeties right now, which may not be the best example, but you almost have clean vocals on parts, other parts I hear Steve Souza.....I just want to know your point of reference for your vocals, it's killing me to know. |

When I first started in Ultimatum, I honestly had no influences. At that point in my life I had just graduated from Bible College, I was listening to no secular music and was just trying to do my own thing. Ultimatum wast my first band, so I just tried to do what I thought fit.
It wasn't until years later, after people started comparing me to guys like Blitz, Mille, Udo, etc. that I really started to fine tune my vocals.
However, before I gave up secular metal in the early 90's, I had already been a fan of bands like AC/DC, Accept and Overkill, so perhaps those influences were there even though I wasn't listening to them at the time I joined Ultimatum.
It's only been since I joined and left Once Dead that people have been comparing me to Roger Martinez. I really don't hear that comparison at all. I think that is more of a case of "guilt by association" than anything else.
One thing that did affect the way I sang over the years was reviews that I had received. Many of them thought I wasn't aggressive enough. Some of them would say what they liked and didn't like and I really used those pieces of constructive criticism to inject more attitude into my style. Our former bassist Tom Michaels once told me he liked the more "growly" style I did to the clean stuff as well. I value people's opinions, both positive and negative, and try to use those things to better myself.
One other thing is that I was never completely happy with how the vocals came out on our CDs. I use to hear people say quite often, "your vocals are so much better live than they are on CD." I hated that. I always wondered why I couldn't capture that aggression and heart that I had on the stage, in the studio. With our last two studio albums, I really tried hard to capture that sound. _________________

| Was the hard streets of New York an influence on your vocal stylings? I guess I have never seen you talk much about your youth. Although I realize I have grown, I liked the kid I was and always tried to keep my teen years, and the philosophies and open-mindedness that molded me then, part of my present. _________________ Where were you in '79? |

| Nahhhh, I grew up in suburban New Jersey. A nice little neighborhood with white picket fences, green grass, and lots of neighbors that all knew your name. I always tried to be "real" as a teenager. Other kids I knew went to church and youth group and acted like they were perfect angels, but I knew how they acted outside of church. I tried to be the same person I was in and out of church, for the most part. I wore my Molly Hatchet and Aerosmith shirts to youth, much to the dismay of the church members. So, in that respect, I think I brought that from my youth. I still am that person today. However, I can't really say how much my upbringing had to do with my vocals, other than to say I got into metal at a very early age. _________________

| Cool. I just remember that you got to rock L'Amours (another dream that shall never be for me - boo-hoo).
As far as vocals coming from some singers' youth, alot of people that sing in your style had a hard upbringing. Just didn't know if that was any kind of connection for you personally.
So the next Ulty-Cover is Flirtin' with Disaster, then? _________________ Where were you in '79? |

| Ha! I'm a huge Molly Hatchet fan, but Robert wouldn't touch 'em with someone else's guitar.
I did get to go to some of those clubs in NY and Philadelphia. Nice thing about Trenton was it was only 30 - 40 minutes outside of Philly or NYC.
