Yes Joker it is a very short album, but it is 26 minutes of greatness and not a second wasted! I love this album even more than the debut, look at the great songs on this album and most of the best songs are the deep cuts.

"Goin' Blind' the best ballad (?) KISS ever wrote and the lyrics are so politically incorrect for that alone it gets an extra ten bonus points. 'All the Way' another classic KISS off song, and Gene does a great vocal performance.

'Comin' Home' has one of my favorite opening lyrics of all time:

'It's Been a Month or Two since I have been sleeping with you" brilliant.

'Parasite' a classic metal anthem and a one of Ace's best riffs. 'Mainline' a cool little rocker.

Excellent album.

This is one Kiss album I barely remember.

Other than the title cut and Let Me Go Rock N Roll, I can't recall a single song from this one.

My favorite KISS album

Ace shines BIG TIME on this 1/2 hour of catchy rock n roll

IMHO, if the hooks from the riffs don't grab ya and get your attention. Well then the hooks from the vocal melodies will.

I always wanted to hear a live version of "Mainline"

Another awesome album. Strange Ways is probably one of the heaviest songs KISS did in the 1970s.

Definetly a great album despite the production and the god awful album cover. Another little tid bit about the album cover (Man I love Wikipedia)
Ace Frehley's image on the front cover is actually airbrushed, as a side of his face was injured in a car accident and was without makeup on the afflicted area at the time of the photo shoot. Also, the Japanese characters used for Ace's name pronounces it wrong. The characters are エイス フューリ (eisu fyuuri), which would translate to "Ace Fury." The characters should have been エイス フリーリ (eisu furiiri).

Another classic! This album is outstanding. I love the title track (one of their best songs ever), Parasite (a great tune) and the lesser know Strange Ways (with,as already stated,an awesome Ace solo).

I think the cover is cool,in a bizarre way. This has one of those covers that needs to be seen on vinyl to be fully appreciated.

This was one of those albums that I wanted to own...but my Mother said "no" after looking at the album cover. Even at 7 years old I knew something called "Hotter Than Hell" was going to be cool!

Laughing very hard

HOTTER THAN HELL is another makeup era fave for me. How can you not get your air guitar on during stuff like "Parasite" and "Strange Ways?" The only track that's never done much for me is "All The Way," the rest is killer. I even like Peter's "Mainline" although a lot of people don't seem to share my enthusiasm for that one. H.T.H. still gets a lotta spins from me.

Some other interesting facts about the photo shoot - other than Ace wrecks alot of cars, was that Paul was extremely drunk and Gene had to lock him in a car because he was so drunk. This was supposedly one of the only times he was ever drunk. He was so drunk, that he is holding on to Peter's leg on the cover shot so he didn't fall over!

I remember all the rumors about the back cover when I was a kid i.e. Peter is actually getting a B.J. in his photo, etc

wow, 26 minutes! I always thought it was short but that is strange. It is one killer album. ok, maybe this one is better than the debut. I havent heard it in so long so I guess I dont know. One thing for sure, they toured their a**es off back then and even though sales were horrid, they were building credibility and a foundation that would last them for decades.

Hotter than Hell features two of the most underrated Kiss songs, "Mainline" and "Strangeways". Also features one of the best Kiss songs ever in "Parasite". "Going Blind" is an example of stellar musicianship from the Kiss dudes.

DOH! Yea I read that too I forgot to add it. Its funny how even though there wasnt any photoshop back then the tricks they still used to cover things up were interesting.

I didn't like Hotter Than Hell for a long time. I hated (and still hate) the album art and the production is really weak. I can see it for the classic it is now, but doesn't come close to touching their debut.

"Parasite", "Mainline", "Watchin' You" and "Comin' Home" are my faves.

The S/T album and Hotter Than Hell are both great albums from Kiss, just some of that dirty, punchy hard rock that I love, pretty much all the songs are good on both (I only really dislike "Love Theme From Kiss" and "Kissin Time" the latter of which I didnt even here til the remasters came out cause I had the first issue of the LP) my only real problem was with the production, mainly on Hotter Than Hell they sound like theyre trapped in a jello mold there. "Parasite" is one of the best pre metal songs out there. However I really do think better versions of all these songs are on Alive

Debut: KISS entered the rock-scene back in 1973, and within a year they had their first record out. And what a debut it was! Short of 3 songs (including 1 cover and 1 instrumental), they are all classics! They are essential tracks, and most of them are still part of the live set! The original vinyl-pressing didn't include the Bobby Rydell cover "Kissin' Time", and actually KISS never wanted it to be on the record. It was recorded to promote a kissing contest, a contest to promote KISS! "Love Theme From KISS" is one of the few instrumental numbers KISS have recorded, and was originally called "Acrobat". Peter has different make-up on the cover than the one that became his trademark. I started listening to KISS when I was 7 years old, but didn't start collecting their material until I was 20 something. Then some of the songs was almost new to me. One of those rediscovered tunes was "Black Diamond", which is one of my all time favorite KISS-tunes. A MUST!!!

Killer tracks: Strutter, Nothin' To Lose, Firehouse, Cold Gin, Deuce, 100,000 Years, Black Diamond

Hotter Than Hell:
The same year as their first release, KISS also released their second album. Talk about productivity (KISS actually released one or two or five(!) albums per year from 1974 until 1989, only missing out on 1986)! 'Hotter Than Hell' includes as many classics as it's predecessor, and also here I rediscovered songs like "Got To Choose" and "Strange Ways". The cover was sort of a nod to Japan, but the record wasn't released in Japan until 1977. Kiss has always being linked to the Japanese traditional kabuki make-up, but they never took the idea from there. It all came about by just taking the glam-look, with girl-like make-up and clothes, and taking it to the extreme. Another essential KISS recording, A MUST!!

Killer tracks: Got To Choose, Parasite, Goin' Blind, Hotter Than Hell, Watchin' You, Comin' Home, Strange Ways

KISS - Dressed To Kill
Casablanca Records 1975

1. Room Service
2. Two Timer
3. Ladies In Waiting
4. Getaway
5. Rock Bottom
6. C'mon and Love Me
7. Anything for My Baby
8. She
9. Lover Her All I Can
10. Rock And Roll All Night

Thirteen months after KISS released their self titled debut album, they released their third platter, called Dressed To Kill. This time, KISS went back to New York to record at Electric Ladyland Studios with Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart and the band as producers. This time KISS went for a cleaner and more pop sound. Neil Bogart was one of the key players in the bubblegum pop scene. Rumor is that he didn't spend much time in the studio. The bubblegum pop influence can be heard even on Rock and Rock all night, which lacks the guitar solo added to every other recording of the song. The production is much cleaner that the murky hotter than hell.

How does the album stack up to the previous two? For me, this is ranked number three of the original releases. But it is a very close three. Once again, KISS puts out GREAT GREAT release. The only track that is close to being filler is Two Timer, which showed Gene's potential to write filler/lesser songs.

Room service kicks the album off with a great hard rock vibe. Great chorus on Ladies In Waiting Peter sings the Ace song, Getaway and side one (of those of us that had the vinyl!) ends with the classic track Rock Bottom - intro written by Ace, song written by Paul.

Side two kicks off with another classic track, C'mon and love me which is one of my personal favorite Paul songs. Anything For My Baby and Lover Her All I Can and two more great deep tracks from Paul. The classic Gene track "She" is a re-worked version of a Wicked Lester song. If you have heard the original on the KISS box set, you can hear how the song is MUCH BETTER as a metal one!!!!

The album closes with what was to become the song KISS is best know for, Rock And Roll All Night. My only gripe is NO SOLO!!!!! The song would not become as well known as it is today if not for the next album, Alive!

Sales wise, the album did better then Hotter Than Hell, but they band had still not received their first gold record. As a live act, KISS was becoming the band to see in concert. They had started headlining (as many bands didn't KISS as an opening act). The Dressed To Kill tour would make a stop at Detroit's Cobo Hall for the recording of the next album.

For the cover shoot, Gene kept Paul away from the alcohol (j/k) and since the band didn;t own any suits, they borrowed them from manager Bill Aucion so they looked like they were dressed to kill. As you can tell from the album cover, Gene is taller than Bill Aucoin and the fit of the suit shows. The photo was taken in front of the studio.

Dressed To Kill is the second release in row by KISS to clock in under 30 minutes, this one at 29 minutes and 56 seconds. All in all, another classic release from KISS!!!!

Dressed To Kill is a bit of a letdown to me. Sure, it contains Rock And Roll All Nite but the rest (besides Rock Bottom and She) are kinda weak to me. I think all that rushing to put albums out led to it. I mean they were pulling out Wicked Lester songs to add in (albeit they were much improved).Well, not a terrible album by any stretch, just the weakest of the originals.Oh and another cool cover!

Third album in just over two years for KISS, maybe it was the strain of album-tour-album-tour-album-tour getting to them early but DRESSED TO KILL, while it has a couple of classic tracks, is towards the bottom of the '70s pile for me. There's no denying that "Rock Bottom," "She," and of course "Rock N Roll All Night" kick ass, but the rest of the stuff is fair to middling. Legend has it that Paul and Gene wrote the majority of this material during the recording process on the fly -- so that Peter and Ace would come in every morning and Paul would be like "Hi, today's song is called Room Service."

Of course the album did finally garner KISS their first radio hit ("Rock And Roll All Nite") so in that regard it is kinda like the album that started kicking the KISS machine into gear.

A good album, but the third record in a row where the studio tracks don't even come CLOSE to capturing the sound about to be unleashed on their next record.

Always loved the cover...

I heard Alive before any of these, so I have never completely warmed up to them.

I like the album, not as good as the previous two as I feel it's a little weak sonically and there's a bit of filler ie. Getaway, Room Service and Two Timer. She has one of the greatest instrumental intros in Rock history IMO.
