I would like to hear more from you with the upcoming albums. I'll post the next review tomorrow in the night when I get back from work . I guess that one will get some mixed reviews bad and good ones |

Detonation is a great, classic metal album. Probably the band's most well known album as well. I was into this in college in the 80's and many of my non-Christian friends enjoyed it as well. _________________

I'll have to pick up Detonation soonish. The first one didn't really do it for me, but since most people think the second album is better I'll give that one a try.

Both of these first two Bloodgood albums are pure gold to my ears! My personal favorite is "Rock in a Hard Place" though, but I know that one is coming up ... so I'll refrain from any further comment on it.

Sorry guys I havent post the next one but I have been busy this whole week getting my little sister's bday ready, here it goes the next one Bloodgood - rock in a hard place With This album the band changed their style of heavy metal into a more melodic and pop sound very drastically. Even if their sound went more melodic, Mister Dave Zafiro didn’t stop to shred on the whole album, the powerful lyrics are still present, and the unique carisma of Les Carlesn still is present. So even thought this could be their weakest album, don’t get carried away for that reason, there is plenty to enjoy about this album. On nolifetilmetal Scott mentioned that on the cd the bass is missing, only on the LP you can hear it. I have to say that the LP sound better than the mix for the CD.

Well, here's the deal. Bloodgood rules. Period. Their first two albums were phenominal. No question. However, with the release of this album ... many fans were disappointed. I never was though. I just took it for what it was. Commercial metal. And for what it is - IT RULES! You can hardly find more hook-laden songwriting (even for the late 80s)! This album grabbed me by the hair and never let go! I love this one. As much as I love the first two Bloodgood albums, this one supercedes them both! Just in the department of songwriting alone. I guess that's why I feel this album is much stronger than anything else in their catalogue and trumps most of what was ever released in white metal circles. The songwriting was just sooo strong. 10/10 .. a perfect album. _________________

In my opinion this band never released a bad disc. And 'Rock In A Hard Place' ranks fine alongside the rest of their catalogue. They did go for a less heavy approach here, but there is still no denying their powerful songwriting skills. I've also read that something didn't go down well when this album was recorded and mixed, so the entire low end spectrum of the recording seems missing. But, like I aid, there are plenty of killer songs here to enjoy anyhow. The tracks "Seven" and "Never Be The Same" are alone worth the price. Killer tracks: Never Be The Same, The Presence, She's Gone, Seven _________________

Good disc!!! Not as good as the awesome Detonation, but a great disc!!! They went for the more melodic approach on this one. The low end sonically is missing on this one. The band said it is because the studio they recorded had a lot of "false low end". The band said the album sounded heavier in the studio than on the final mix. This would be the last album that David Zaffiro was an official member of the band and recorded all of the guitars. Rumors have persisted that David recorded guitar on the Bloodgood albums after this one.

I can see what you mean about the 'low end' being not as strong, but it gave it a unique sound nonetheless. Perhaps the album would have been heavier, but alas ... it is what it is. Like it or not. And I (like most it seems) - like it! However, I was a tad bit disappointed in the follow-up, "Out of the Darkness", but I shall wait to comment on that one until the right time. _________________

David Zaffiro indeed added a lot to Bloodgood. When he left I didn't like them as much. Those first three Bloodgood albums are gold though. I also don't buy that David secretly laid down guitar for the albums after his departure. The guitar sound it way too different and distinctly 'not his workmanship'. _________________

I got all of Bloodgood's albums within a year of eachother so I wasnt buying each release as they came out. I know this album is a bit more commercial and polished than the others but I loved it when I first heard it and it was what I needed at the time since I was trying to fill my life with as much christian hard rock/ heavy metal that I could. 15 years after first buying it, it has some nostalgia for me now. When you go back and listen to David Zaffiro's first solo album and this album, you can sense that his guitar playing style was changing on "Rock In A Hard Place" and he would continue to evolve with each of his solo albums; some say worse, some say better.

I was very disappointed in this release initially. After hearing 'Detonation' and then this wow.... It's like how I felt after hearing 'Turbo' by Judas Priest the first time.... Having said that, after some time this album did grow on me... I also saw 'em live a couple of times on this tour as well.... It was just a full on shock to me.... Plus the total 'Whitesnake' brake down in 'Shakin.' just put me over the top initially..... It's a very good disc that should be re-recorded because there isn't any bass on the master tapes....

I broke out the BLOODGOOD catalog for today's work day and I have to say I forgot how good this band really is! Strong, melodic Heavy Metal songs! I'll play catch-up now on the thread: BLOODGOOD - Bloodgood- This was one of the first Christian Heavy Metal bands I ever heard. I actually heard them for the first time on this album, but it was after Detonation was released. This album is raw, energetic and intense. Les Carlsen delivers the songs with passion and Zaffiro is amazing. On the whole this album and Detonation remind me of a blend of early DIO and IRON MAIDEN... BLOODGOOD - Detonation- If any BLOODGOOD album gets a perfect 10.0, it's this one. Pure, undiluted Heavy Metal from start to finish. The DIO influence is still felt (especially on "Heartbeat Of The City") and the agression and passion are cranked up from the debut. This album contains a lot of the band's best material like "Battle Of The Flesh", "Alone In Suicide", "Holy Fire" and the one-two punch of "Crucify" and "The Messiah". Zaffiro, again, proves his mettle as one of the best guitarists in the Christian Metal scene and, IMO, Metal in general. BLOODGOOD - Rock In A Hard Place- A lot of people think the band kind of "sold out" on this one because there is more melody, more hooks and less Metal aggression. I disagree. While it's certainly more hook oriented and less focused on head-banging riffs and rhythms, the songs are top shelf Melodic Hard Rock. "Never Be The Same" has DOKKEN written all over it, as does "The Presence" without being a rip off...strong, commercial leaning Hard Rock. "What Have I Done?" reminds me of a power ballad like ICON or KEEL would do. "Heaven On Earth" (following the DIO example again), "Do Or Die" and "Shakin' It" remind you that, yes, this is still very much BLOODGOOD. Excellent album and probably ties w/ Detonation as my favorite BLOODGOOD album.

I've got the same KMG double that a lot of people have, and I gotta say that I prefer the debut to Detonation. As for the "Accept The Lamb" intro, I don't know if it's cheesy or not but I like it, it's catchy. I've never heard Rock in a Hard Place, but it sounds as if it might be a little cheesy too, which means I'd probably like it! I have no problem with cheese.

| Bloodgood - Out of the Darkness 1989
Out of The Darkness is the only album I don't have, and I friend was supposed to give me a copy but haven't done it, so I had download it since it is not available to get it at the moment. I have to say that It is a great album, I found myself listening to it dayly the whole album 2 or 3 time for about two weeks, something that is rare to happened. it fells like the two first album, heavier than the last. ZAffiro is not anymore with this album, and this worried me first, but Paul Jackson did an amazing job to play the guitars at the style of the band. I found the whole album to be enjoyable. If I had to point some great songs appart from the hit of the title track would be. "Led My People Go", "America", "It's All Right", "Top of the mountain". I hope the band goes and re-release their entire catalogue,This album gets an 8/10 |

Another good, album, but you can tell that Zaffiro is missing on the guitars. Rumor is he played some guitars on the album. Paul Jackson is OK, but he's no David Zaffiro. At this point Bloodgood started to get a little boring and predictable. When I say the song title "Top Of The Mountain", KISS' "King Of The Mountain" started playing in my head.

Bloodgood had turned much softer by now, and their melodic side is showing to it's fullest. Each song has some cool parts, but as a whole this album falls through. It's not as good as it's predecessors at all. Only the ballads get highest scores here, and "Top Of The Mountain" is one of my all time favorite songs. Keep in mind that even a Bloodgood on half pace, is still 10 times better then most bands out there. New drummer, Kevin Whistler, can also be found in Watchmen. Killer tracks: Top Of The Mountain, Changing Me _________________

I agree that this album was their weakest. I still really like it, as I like all of Bloodgood's stuff. But the departure of David Zaffiro is not only heard, but felt. He was a vital part of the Bloodgood chemistry. This album proved that. Anyway ... still a good album, I'd rate it an 8/10. Favorite song is "Top of the Mountain". Here's how I would rank the Bloodgood catalogue (with the exception of "All Stand Together", as I am missing that one). 1. Rock in a Hard Place 10/10 2. Detonation 9.5/10 3. Bloodgood 9/10 *** small gap *** 4. Out of the Darkness 8/10 _________________
