I'm not one of those that think Metallica would still be playing music like their earlier stuff. I believe he would've went along with lars and james or not been in the band anymore.

You may be right, after all most bands start as equals and as time goes on one or two members end up having more control or say.

I think if he lived people would be saying things like, "Remember when Cliff Burton used to play the bass like a mofo?" I have a sinking feeling people wouldn't be talking about him as much if he lived.

I've said countless times that Cliff would have moved well beyond metal long before the rest of the guys in Metallica did.

In 1986 i wasn't into metal yet but i remember people still taliking about it in 1990 when i discovered thrash.

I found out the next day. I was floored. At the time they were probably my favorite band and most of the world hadnt really discovered them yet, alot of folks didnt know about them until they toured with Ozzy summer of '86.

I can definitely see that.

I started listening to metal right after Cliff died, and had no clue who he was.

However, Metallica was one of the first metal bands i heard.
