I'm younger than you, so 20 years goes probably too far back. That would be basically anything beyond my teenage years.

The boards show I joined March 2009, so maybe something around that time. Or 2007 when I got married and suddenly had a lot less time alone. That would kind of, sort of, align me with your cutoff point age-wise.

So these are bands I hadn't listened to prior to around that time in my life:

Axel Rudi Pell
Michael Schenker Group
Ayreon - I jumped on board in 2013 when I bought the Universal Migrator 2CD. I was already a fan of Star One though.
Hollow / Binary Creed - I remember posting here about buying the first two Hollow albums.
Mystic Prophecy - I've become a massive fan. They are one of my all-time favourites now. I only knew Valley's Eve prior to joining the boards.
Extreme
Helstar
Masterplan - I bought a bunch of their CDs from a board member here.
Morgana Lefay - I think it was 2018 or 2019 I finally got into these guys.
Powergod - they are very good. There was a thread about them here.
Metalium - got into them because of Chris Caffery
Powerwolf - my favourite "newer" band.
Brainstorm
Saigon Kick
Tarot - got their entire discography quickly after hearing the first album
Tesla
Threshold
Twisted Tower Dire
UFO - I really love these guys now.
Voivod
Wuthering Heights / Civil War - I discovered Nils Patrik Johansson not long ago.

Is that 20 already? I lost count. Everything else I like I've already listened to earlier.

I could almost add one of my all-time favourites Rage because I only had 1 of their CD's before the Great Plunge a decade or so ago when I purchased everything by them. But I won't. I actually already listed 21 bands. And I forgot Winters Bane. Listening to Powergod got me into the Winters Bane vocalist. That can be one entry Wink

My taste is still the same, focused on heavy, power and thrash. I did discover and still enjoy, to a certain extent, some melodic death metal, especially Amon Amarth and Children of Bodom.

Here's a list of some of the bands i got into thanks to NLTM/HoM:

Primal Fear
Grave Digger
Wolf
Rage
Brainstorm
HammerFall
Armored Saint
Annihilator
Marshall Law
UDO
Paragon
Edguy
Iron Savior
Onslaught
Pretty Maids
Twisted Tower Dire
Meliah Rage
Artillery
Helstar
Jag Panzer

Some great bands, there, my friend. And some of those I could add to my list, too. but I had to limit myself to the top 20. And there are still dozens more recently discovered and probably dozens more I have yet to discover!

The funny thing is, I have always been a Schenker/ MSG fan, but was not a big fan of UFO until the last decade.

Twenty years? I'm lucky to remember the last twenty minutes lol I'll give it a shot...

In no particular order:

Opeth
Destroyer 666
Power Trip
Legion of the Damned
Suicidal Angels
Behemoth
Samael
Witchcraft
Crimson Glory - New to me, somehow I missed them in my youth
Porcupine Tree
Bolt Thrower
Saint Vitus - again a band that I only got into about ten years, ago
Wolf
Deceased
Tryptykon
W.A.S.P. - yes I liked the first album when it came out but never went back until recently. Man did I miss out.
Gojira
Electric Wizard
Asphyx
Kingston Wall - only three albums by these guys from the 90's, but I discovered them a few years ago, and they were a killer hard rock band. Never since Rush have I heard such a wall of sound come from a three piece band.
