I was talking about this with a dude at the local record shop yesterday. It's really unprecedented. I wonder how much longer certain bands and artists will be around?

We were talking about the exact same issue at the office earlier tonight. One day, all of our artists will no longer be, but so might we. So let's enjoy them while they are still around.

Was visiting a married friend, about ten years ago. A Vietnam vet friend was there too.
We were in the basement of his house, laughing it up, chatting. His 13 year old son was near by...
He put on the Sabbath CD. The three of us know every nuance to every song...but the 3 of us never heard the songs together.
We were drinking beers and very upbeat. His son was astounded and amazed. He never heard of Sabbath before.
It was a top notch experience of mine for sure.

It kind of makes me sad that I already knew Sabbath and heavy metal by the time I heard this.

I'm trying to imagine having no idea what is coming and hearing the beginning of this record!

I feel the same way. I only heard this album a few years ago, very long after my ears had already been well trained to metal.

I listen to this sucker at least once a month. It slaps me hard in the jaw every time.

I also have fond memories of hearing the record for the first time--mind you, I had already heard Paranoid and Iron Man--and having the WORST NIGHTMARES.

Seriously, it is something God himself smile upon. What a work of art.

I love this album and still sounds fresh today

I only came to know "Black Sabbath" many years after my introduction on Metal . Many will put another albums as the "birth" of the style , But I DEFINITELY go with this one . some people would say : "Oh , Heavy Metal started with Deep Purple "In Rock" , Led Zeppelin's first album and Creams stuff" . But ... picking up all of these bands , what are the only one all metalheads respect , like and listen to , in general ? I like some Deep Purple and a little Zeppelin , but I´d NEVER associate their music with "Heavy Metal" . Black Sabbath yes , altought Metal definitely sounded different on the 70's . But they started it all , along with Judas Priest .

NO !!! Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin canNOT be considered "Metal" by any standards . They are "Hard Rock" as far as 2020 music goes ...

They both were the original definition of heavy metal. Together with Black Sabbath, they literally defined what heavy metal was. 

You'd have a better case arguing what today is called "heavy metal" is not heavy metal at all, because it's different.

They weren't even proto-metal (like Hendrix/Cream/the Who), they were actually referred to as heavy metal, by the press and by the people.

Going all Scott Waters & Trog here, but would you describe them as "just hard rock"? 

I consider these bands "Hard Rock" by today's standards , but I don´t care anyways , labels are for food , not music ,
