Your favorite era of heavy metal music

What era of metal music is your personal favorite?

The 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, or the present?

I prefer the 80s. I think that metal was in its purest form then. There was much more experimenting going on rather than every band trying to be faster or more aggressive than the others. My favorite year in particular was 1987. Thrash was rearing its head from the underground and german speed metal was in its heyday.

Definitely the 80's for me.1989 was a stellar year for alot of metal.Almost every metal album released in 89 is a classic now.Long live the 80's.And the new wave of thrash now only makes since-history repeats itself every 20 years

80's for sure and also 1990 to 1993ish.

It's always been good, but now I just can't believe the quality of what's coming out. It's easy to look back and always think the "old days" were better, but for me in many ways that's just not true. Here's to the future!!

The 90's made me a bitter, bitter metal fan, and I hate Pantera for it. I am just now starting to give in and listen to the newer stuff. I love the new thrash metal revival and T-Roy's favorite, Becoming The Archetype is the first band to really open my eyes lately. But the 80s still have a hold on me. I refuse to stop wearing my Michael Jackson Thriller jacket.

I came of age in the 80s so that's "my" era so to speak. I love lots of bands from all eras of metal but the 80s stuff is still the best in my book. It truly was the "golden age"

But, yeah, '87 DRI - Crossover definately brought both of my worlds
together. Because, then, it was not just the metalheads vs. the
skins and the punks vs. the skins, it was the metalheads united with
the punks vs the skins. And let me tell ya, those nazi-wannabees
were not as brave at "our" shows any longer. And I was 18 in '87,
looking for unity after a life of derision and division. That
year molded me into who I am today. Your fav uncle!

The good stuff gets remembered and the crap gets forgotten so it is always easy to look back and say things were better.

I have favorite genre's from eras such as thrash from the 80's, hard rock from the 70's when it was on the verge of getting metal.

The late 80's, 'cause that's when I discovered it. But this decade is shaping up well. It's all good.
