Classic Rock Tourney 2015 - 2 polls

Vote on each!!!!  

We will total up the votes and have a final four next week.  OK to change your vote before then! [no - I did not include the Beatles as they were a mostly 60's band.  Also, Rush and Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and the most common bands would dominate, so left them out too.  Going with 70's second tier bands]

Led Zeppelin was one of my early favorites, so they get the nod here.

I guess I'd go Zeppelin, tho calling them "second tier" is obviously a controversial choice of words.

I voted for that nearly-forgotten second tier band Pink Floyd. You know, the ones that in the United States alone sold 75 million records (estimated over 200 million worldwide) and one of their albums remained in the top 200 Billboard chart for 15 years straight.

Yer killing me Dudley. I only meant that the bands I did not include were first tier. Zep, Flyod, Yes, were all probably first tier, as well. Just did not include the other because of gamesmanship. So picky you guys are.

I voted for Led Zeppelin. Rainbow would be a close second.

without Floyd or Zep, I'd go for Rainbow and Yes as a close second.

Without Floyd or Zep, Yes would be the clear choice for me.

Without Floyd, Rainbow would have been out there on their own for me (never did understand the 'greatness of Zep)

Zeppelin. No questions asked. Blues rock, heavy metal, prog rock, acoustic balladry, folk stuff. Everything in one band and performed perfectly.

Sorry, had to give a shout out for them because I doubted anyone else would be tossing a vote their way. Gotta vote yer conscience and all that...

B.O.C. was an awesome band but creatively they do not hold a candle up to Zeppelin. Great players, great songs but not that tier.

If someone's going to ask me who the best "classic rock" band is, I just think of the first bands that start playing in my head when that term comes up. Honestly, it's a tie between B.O.C. and Led Zeppelin. I also think the Cult doesn't get their due when it comes to versatility (and humor).

Pink Floyd is another favorite, but I don't think their music is (for the most part) tied to an era to be "classic" in the radio playlist sense.

Wow, that was tough. I went with BOC because I definitely own more albums by them than any of the other bands in the poll and I find them to be the most consistent.

Even though I get tired of hearing Zeppelin songs on the radio, it's the obscure stuff I listen to anyways. Boston only had two albums, though the first was great The Steve Miller Band, who is from my home state is really good, but I prefer the hits, and even those I'm sort of sick of these days. Regarding Pink Floyd, I respect their accomplishments, but I found it very hard to get into this band. They were/are brilliant musicians, who just didn't appeal to my tastes. Like with Genesis a few years ago, I feel like Yes is a band I really need to delve into further. I love the Ronnie James Dio stuff with Rainbow, but not big on the Graham Bonnet album. I'm hit or miss with the Skynyrd stuff, but the stuff I do like, I really like. I only have a double C.D greatest hits of B.O.C., and though I like it, I don't find myself listening to it very often.

Actually, I think these things are fun.  We used to do these all the time at other boards.  Set up brackets and let bands "fight it out".

Usually the early results are pretty predictable but once you get to the "Elite Eight" so to speak, things get more interesting.
