I know alot of you guys here personally - so I can totally recommend Ned's to all you metalheads! They have a cool dynamic of having 2 bassists - 1 lead and 1 rhythm! Makes for a very unique sound that I have never heard anyone come close to duplicating!!

I clicked open this thread three or four times already and STILL can't think of one non-metal band from the 90's that I dig all that much. Can think of plenty from the 70's and 80's, but the 90's? Hmmm...

Looking back through my collection, there wasn't much non-metal from the 90's that I cared for. While my tastes broadened slighty, stuff that I tried out (Green Day, Offspring, some grunge) never really stuck with me. I always come back to my first love, heavy metal.

Starting near the end of 1995 I started getting into Jazz, so I spent the rest of the decade in deep study of that style. So I missed alot of the bands mentioned in this thread (or I only heard them here and there).

However, nothing in the "rock/metal" camp interested me in that era, so I didn't bother investigating things. It wasn't until about 2005 that I started checking out some of the music from the late 90's and found alot that I liked...though most of it was either in the prog or metal genres.

I loved that Material Issue album! "Valerie Loves Me" is one of my favorite songs of the decade.

BTW, are you from Australia? I was asking because of the Cold Chisel album cover you have for your image. I've never know anyone here in the States listen to Cold Chisel.

My bad, I was referring to the mentors albums that came out in the early 90's, not a real fair choice I suppose.

but warrior soul always strikes me as having hard rock or heavy metal but with a huge influence from punk and alternative...Like space age playboys album. Maybe I'm just tripping out.

I'll give ya that SPACE AGE PLAYBOYS was more cyberpunk/hard rock, but if ya check out SALUTATIONS FROM THE GHETTO NATION (my fave) or DRUGS, GOD AND THE NEW REPUBLIC, them discs are metal thru and thru.

Forgot about Candlebox!!! Had their first CD been released in 89, they would have been called Metal. Same with Creed, as their deep tracks are really good and have awesome riffs!

I agree with Jokerman, Candlebox and Creed would have been labeled metal bands if they had been released years earlier, also alot of bands such as Alice In Chains, Soundgarden were marketed as metal bands.
