Like I said before, that's probably a stretch. However, that is what I thought of upon first hearing this.

There is a solid U2 reference, as the guitars and vocals at times really bring this out. But that's a no-brainer as U2 is one of the band's influences.

As far as the Metallica comparison goes - I was saying that because of the heavy, riff-oriented guitar.

To be more realistic though, I'd say this sounds like a cross between U2, Metallica and Depeche Mode. A winning combination for me.

And I think you might like this Shawn. Let me know what you think. I posted a link to some samples above.

I heard this album again this morning. I've heard it every day since getting it. Loaded with hooks!

We understand you don't like it. You've made your point already.

Now go and listen to some Alice in Chains now.

I just wanted to clear up what "Metallica" sound this band has... Wow talk about defensive. Go on with your session.

Oh dude, I was actually only kidding with you! I wasn't being defensive at all!

I guess it's hard to tell on a board though. I should have posted one of these.

Seriously though, you misunderstood. I was saying 'go listen to Alice in Chains' as a joke. Since you like them and all.

No offense intended dude.

And to be technical, yeah - it would be from the "Load" eras.

Dead By Sunrise is not a metal band by any stretch. Doesn't mean they aren't good though.

MB you dont think Chesters vocals ruin a lot of these songs? Chester is not made to sing to this type of music, his voice is too clean. If this band had a more rasp rough type singer like Brent Smith it would work more. Chester shines on the slower songs but on the harder songs he ruins them IMO.

No, I beg to differ.

I think Chester shines on the heavy stuff, as well as the mellow stuff. He has quite a bit of 'rasp' when he reaches for it. Just take a listen to the song, "Condemned". He's practically screaming on it.

I'm with Rex on this one. Chester is a vocal/songwriting genius and that can be heard on this latest release from Dead By Sunrise.

Screaming is not rasp what Im saying is his voice isnt rough enough. Chester has pipes but not for this type of music therefore it ruins the songs for me.

I need bite for this type of music not a sting.

I can understand where you are coming from. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Dead By Sunrise works very well for me though.

I think Chester has a ok voice but i agree with Rob, not for metal. He did a great job on that post "new wave" song (my december) back with LP.

Just read a small article on them in Guitar World. I have one Linkin Park CD which is ok backround music to do dishes by, change the babies's diapers, etc not bad but nothing special.

As far as Dead by Sunrise, the one sample I heard not bad, I am not sure about U2 comparison but not bad.

Yeah, there is no U2 comparison to be had...it's just modern, alternative hard rock...

Yeah, I hear a little U2 in the guitars at times. Not vocally. But sometimes I can hear some of The Edge. Maybe it's just me though.
