| No particular album because at that time I listened to the radio, I was more into collecting G.I. Joe, Transformers, Star Wars, Legos, Centurians, TMNT, playing Ninetendo, and going outside to play. I can list some artists but not albums. _________________ "There is no family fortune! Geewillikers. Havent thought about that mallrat in eons.
Pat Benatar - In The Heat Of The Night good songs...Pat was smokin...and Neil Geraldo hammered out some catchy riffs and laid down one heck of a solo on the outro to Heartbreaker. _________________ "James Bond has a license to kill, rockstars have a license to be outrageous. Asia was also mentioned. Really a great many of my favorite Pop records from the 80's came from prog bands "selling out" (my guess is that the success of Alan Parsons motivated much of this, IMO). Yes 90125 and many, many others. My absolute favorite was Camel's "Stationary Traveler"; but that attempt at sellling out didn't sell too well I don't think. But here's a bunch of great pop records from "prog" bands... Camel- The Single Factor Planet P Keats Barclay James Harvest- Eyes of the Universe Gentle Giant- Citizen FM(Canada)- City of Fear Three- The Power of 3 The Greg Lake Band Jethro Tull- A GTR and many more. I'm not saying that they were all devoid of prog, but it was poppy prog. |

| Two of mine just sneak into the 80's, one's a New Romantic classic and the other a brilliant New Wave/Post-Punk record.
Japan - Quiet Life (1980)
Adam And The Ants - Kings Of The Wild Frontier (1980) _________________ "...Got tattooed arms and rings in my ears Never gonna suffer a straight man's fears..."

Of course it does, am i the only one who thinks Duran Duran borrowed heavily from David Sylvain and the boys. Have you heard their first 2 albums, David Sylvain disowns them. But their two great late 70's albums of glammy funky hard rock with that Roxy Music influence? _________________ "...Got tattooed arms and rings in my ears Never gonna suffer a straight man's fears..."

Oh yes, Duran Duran had complete Japan worship going on. If I didn't know any better I'd swear it were actually David Sylvain singing and not Simon Le Bon. |

Yeah their almost dead ringers in voice, although you could say both were chanelling Bryan Ferry from his Roxy Music days in their vocals. _________________ "...Got tattooed arms and rings in my ears Never gonna suffer a straight man's fears..."

Yes, I listen to "Obscure Alternatives" regularly. But it's in the glam rotation, not the pop. Another one I like to listen to when I'm in that mood is "Nadir's Last Chance" by Peter Hamill. Sylvain got too serious about himself IMO (kinda like Bill Nelson did). Stuff like "Orpheus" was great, but he was really in a groove with "The Quiet Life". Times change I guess. |
