Communic (AWESOME!!)
Chrome Division (ok 1st album, 2nd one was "meh")

I just glanced through the 1,100+ band listed in metal archives for bands from Norway, and these are what caught my eye:

Just went through my CDs and there's not a single album from Norway. Definitely not intentional though - I have plenty of Swedish and Finnish bands in my collection. I had to double check on Otyg, but yeah they're Swedish.

I'm a bit surprised myself. I'd like to think it's a subconscious protest against killing whales or burning churches, but I think it's just a coincidence. And also because Norwegians bands, outside of black metal, haven't really 'made it' internationally. There aren't really any 'essential' bands I'd need to hear, unless I was into more extreme metal.

I used to like black metal in my teens - but more so for the kvlt than the actual quality of the music. So yeah, I was a rebellious poser. I had at least Satyricon's Rebel Extravaganza and Nemesis Divina. And a bunch of copied compilations, Mayhem live at least - and I even went to see Immortal live. But I kind of grew out of it fast. Since then I've also seen Satyricon and they weren't really that kick-ass. And Dimmu Borgir, but they are more atmospheric anyway.

I'm more into straight-up metal, with good musicianship and songs that make sense now. I still like the occasional frantic, even extreme music. Anyway, I know there's a bunch of quality Norwegian metal out there though. A lot of the bands are also at least somewhat known in Finland. So no real excuse to not get into Norwegian metal.
